It has been widely reported that Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, widow of President John F. Kennedy, shared with family members she was certain that Kennedys Vice President Lyndon Baines Johnson, arranged to have her husband murdered.
Soon that conclusion will be heard in the late First Ladys own words, because audio tapes, recorded of discussions with historian and close family associate, Arthur Schlesinger Jr., between March and June 1964, will be released and excerpts featured on an upcoming ABC News program in November marking the 50th anniversary of President John F. Kennedys assassination in Dallas.

The tapes, which insiders describe as featuring Ms. Kennedys disclosures of J.F.K.s affairs and her romantic liaisons in retaliation, also reportedly reveal her conviction that L.B.J., with a cabal of associates and Texas businessmen, orchestrated the plot culminating in the Kennedy assassination. This is in contrast to the account of these interviews in Barbara Leamings biography of Ms.Kennedy, The Winter of Her Despair.
The establishment theory of the Kennedy assassination, arguably the most controversial event in American history, is dubbed the lone gunman. It is the conclusion of the Warren Report, commissioned by newly sworn in Lyndon Johnson and chaired by then Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Earl Warren.
It concludes that Kennedy was shot by Lee Harvey Oswald, a disturbed ex-Marine who had exhibited erratic actions and behavior and that Oswald shot the President from the 6th floor of the Dallas Book Depository building....

This is the fiftieth anniversary of the first anniversary!
Kind of like how in the 1990s every new Disney animated feature was the 25th or 30th, etc. depending on which they decided to include or exclude in the counting.
Yeah, but Lee Harvey was just nuts enough to do it.
Carlos Marcello would have had no problem convincing him.
My No 1 on the list is still the Mafia.

And you’d be right. I had a acquaintance who was in the life back in the day and if anyone even mentioned the name Kennedy you’d better duck.
They got the election for ‘Jack’ through his father and then the Kennedys betrayed them.
LBJ didn’t even seek a second elected term as President. Doesn’t sound like the kind of guy who wants it so bad he’d kill for it.
“who was a beneficiary of help from J. Edgar Hoover”
Not hardly. No one was as sad to see Kennedy go as was Hoover.
JFK had been caught fooling around with a diplomats wife. Hoover grabbed all the evidence and cleaned things up. One month before Dallas, Kennedy did something he had sworn he’d never do - called Hoover into his office and asked him to stay on as director.
Hoover had JFK right where he liked to have people - in his pocket. He had much less on LBJ and had a lot harder time getting him under control, although he eventually did.
Awesome
The Kennedys had lots of enemies but I always believed the most obvious enemy - Castro and Russians - resulting from bay of pigs and Cuban missile crisis. Oswald had been to Russia. Of course the Russians deny it. Yeah right. They used Lee Harvey Oswald and possibly another shooter on grassy knoll. There is evidence for 2nd shooter via video of JFK’s head going backwards after fatal head shot. However if some physics experts could explain how a shot from the back could still result in head moving backwards it is indeed possible Oswald did it all. People have re-enacted it and Oswald could have pulled off the shots.
The idea that LBJ had anything to do with it is deep into 9/11 truther style territory. Utter nonsense.
I have NO doubt that it was the Secret Service agent who fired the explosive head shot that killed Kennedy. NONE.
Damn those time warps!!!! It was the 50th anniversary last November too. Can you say “does this pub know what an editor is?”. I knew ya could.
I think she was trying to figure out which of her husband’s
“enemies” was responsible in these tapes, recorded in January 1964.
Jackie’s comments about Martin Luther King are in here, too.
She speaks of MLK as a ‘phony’ who was arranging ‘orgies’.
The Kennedy Administration (Attorney General Robert Kennedy) authorized the FBI spying to begin after the Birmingham protests and the spread of racial protests across the country in the spring and summer of 1963.
The Dems were afraid of white backlash in 1964 hurting JFK’s chances of re-election. The results of the FBI spying were obviously passed to President Kennedy based on Jackie’s comments.
They sent an audio “sex tape’ to Dr. King early in 1964 (the election year) in what I believe was not some personal crusade by the FBI-J. Edgar Hoover, but a Democrat Party political operation to tamp down the civil rights protests in the election year.....
Too soon

I’m too old to wait.
Yes, but not necessarily for the reasons you have here (more later).
First, Castro was an obedient lap dog that did not do anything without the Russians permission.
Uh, not so much as you think. Note that only 13 months earlier, Fidel damned near started WW3 all by his lonesome. He was sitting in a Soviet AA missile battery during the Cuban Missile Crisis when a US plane appeared on the scope. They watched for a couple minutes as it approached Cuba and then Castro asked if the big red button would launch the missile. The Soviet military guy in charge said yes, and (to everyone's shock and horror) Fidel then went and pushed it - launching the missile and shooting the plane down. Not exactly an obedient lapdog, more of an impulse-driven, rabid little terrier.
The Russians were actually a lot smarter and a lot more aware of our political system then people thought. They knew Kennedys position on civil rights was creating strong headwinds. They also knew that Joe wasnt in a position to buy the election as he did in 1960. Killing Kennedy really made sure his policies would continue, and they knew that.
Yes, they were astute observers of our system. However, you were dealing with a sitting President and while some of his opposition was strong, it wasn't so numerous as to seriously endanger his re-election. At that point, no President had been kicked out of office for 31 years, and that required the Great Depression to bring it about.
I don't think that the Russians did it, for a very simple reason: if found out, it would have guaranteed WW3. The entire free world would have ganged up on them in an instant, and we had an enormous lead in deliverable nukes. Russia simply couldn't afford to fight a war, especially not after having been bled white by the Germans only about 20 years earlier.
Henry Marshall was investigating Johnson crony Billie Sol Estes in the early 60s. Marshall became so depressed that he committed suicide by shooting himself 5 times in the chest with a bolt action .22 rifle.
It was his town, he owned it, found the imbecile to do the job, Ruby (with cancer) sacrificed himself to the cause by killing Oswald before he could spill everything he knew. Being that Ruby knew was dying anyway, he took it all to his grave.
All scenario's about a man on the knoll, one shooter, two shooters is insignificant. The SOB "Great Society" LBJ had the job done. IMO
Seems as though Jackie knew as well. So wondering how she and the kids could remain Democrats.
One of the great mysteries I have always wondered about is “What if Kennedy had lived?” I was only 13 back then, but I lived in South Texas and remembered the talk.
While he was young and charismatic, many of his policies were NOT popular. And those policies had made a LOT of enemies. Could that have translated into an upset? We'll really never know.
Once he was killed, people I had heard cussing him out just a couple of weeks before, now all spoke of him as a saint. Like most 13 year olds at the time, I thought he was great - but then we didn't vote.
I think we would all be better off if LBJ had been in that car that day.
LBJ, Lady Bird and that guy certainly seem just to ecstatic for such a devestating moment for Jackie. Just seems cruel to be so jovial. Lady Bird's smile is very annoying.
J.P. Prewitt: What you've stumbled upon goes way deeper than you could ever fathom. The fashion industry has been behind every major political assassination over the last 200 years. Behind every hit? A card-carrying male model. Matilda: Okay, that's impossible.
J.P. Prewitt: Yeah? Listen and learn, sweetness. Abe Lincoln wanted to abolish slavery, right? But do you think made the powdered wigs and colored leg stockings worn by our country's early leaders?
Derek Zoolander: Mugatu!
J.P. Prewitt: [pauses] Slaves, Derek.
Derek Zoolander: Oh.
J.P. Prewitt: Without their free-labor, prices on such items would have gone up ten-fold! So the powers-that-be hired John Wilkes Booth, the original model/actor, to do Mr. Lincoln in. I'll go on. Dallas, Texas. 1963. Kennedy just put a trade-embargo on Cuba, ostensibly halting shipments of Cuban-manufactured Sansabelt slacks, an incredibly popular item at the time.
Matilda: Lee Harvey Oswald was not a male model.
J.P. Prewitt: You're ******* right he wasn't, but those two lookers who capped Kennedy from the grassy knoll sure as **** were!
He thought it was an accident.
Read the book, and it made some sense.
A great (IMHO) fictional book was Stephan Hunter’s “The Third Bullet”.
Made an interesting case for a second shooter, and the character’s motivation. Very detailed. Still fiction though.
