Governor Andrew Cuomo lied to a small, flood-ravaged village out of a desperately needed $970,000 in aid for a new fire tanker truck, a replacement for 40-year-old jaws of life, and supplies, by lying to officials there, local news sites report.
The village, Middleburgh, has less than 2,000 people. In 2011, Hurricane Irene destroyed much of the village, causing millions in damages and flooding their Main Street and business district with up to eight feet of water. All businesses had to either rebuild or go out of business.
In this picture, you can the outskirts of Middleburgh during normal weather, and the devastating effects of Hurricane Irene:
In its aftermath, Cuomo visited Middleburgh...
He specifically promised $970,000 in aid, said it was budgeted, and the government of Middleburgh planned accordingly.
But today, it was found out that they would not be receiving one cent of that money. And that Andrew Cuomo had lied about his intention to give the small village a single cent.
The Middleburgh Fire Department, people of Middleburgh, and Mayor were all shocked by the governor's announcement that the village would not be receiving any money. "This is not a spending spree. This isn't something that is inconsequential. We know what we need. We went through it three years ago and if we, god forbid, have to go through it again this is absolutely essential," the mayor said.
The governor responded by calling the entire village a bunch of liars, angrily saying that "the community was aware that the equipment could not be paid for by the grant."
Despite this, the grant that Middleburgh sought to use specifically says that emergency equipment, such as the jaws of life, can be bought by the state.

I know this town well, and I saw the devastation from Irene first hand. The creek swelled over 12’ above its all time high. I have never seen flooding in the mountains like what the Hudson Valley saw during Irene. Towns were literally washed away, but CNN and Shepherd Smith were not there to film the locals yelling ‘someone’s got to help us’. Upstate New Yorkers are a self-sufficient group.
As one drives through town, there are nothing but Astorino signs. Hopefully the residents will remember Cuomo’s actions on Election Day next month.
Cuomo is one of the great t*rds of our time. What a loser. These people deserve SO much better.
Relying on a politician to keep his word? A village of idiots.
The Southern Tier took great hits as well. I communicated with a freeper from Owego at the time who was EMS and quite busy! Fortunately, her home was located on a hill so it was safe but the town sure suffered terribly.
If you want to get sold out by a politician, move to upstate New York.
Isn't this the same town fire dept. that Cuomo ads run on TV advertizing ?
The town budgeted, and assumed that Cuomo would keep his word - but he renigged on the money .
Now they are surprized ? But he still uses them in his advertizing !
Even upstate , that's called "Chutzpah" !!
Asterino has integrity and a record of success , that's more than what Cuomo is offering.
This area doesn’t exist to the governor of New York City.
Son of sfachime is the offspring of another true piece of arrogant garbage, mario
