Now, I know that you would like for that to be insignificant until they actually get a volunteer and carry that out under laboratory conditions, but it isn't.
So, no - lack of experiments on humans does not reduce the risk factor to that of a rumor.
I guess that you could volunteer to be tested on with an infected dog, just so the issue would be settled in your mind. That would be an awful thing to do to your family though, as there really isn't much medical doubt.
