“There was no way a rebadged Chevy Volt listing for $75K was going to find a place in the market.”

GM went bankrupt a few years, when “badging” was their main “strategy.”

The public is smarter than GM gives them credit for being.

LOL. I don’t know who Mr. Scaife is, but you are definitely over-thinking this. There are a few points to make; one is that rich people who buy cars like the ELR for $75,000 (which can save Mother Earth from the burning of a maximum of 1 gallon of gas a day)should not be getting $7,500 tax credits paid for by those who can not afford such vehicles. The other is that government should not create crony corporations like GM by taking over the company and rewarding friends in the UAW along with high paid executives.

New GM acts in deceptive manners, my close observations of them over the past five years sees that pattern, The Chevy Volt was over-hyped and never lived up to it. MSM was in on it with major networks blowing the trumpets.

If you want to talk about propaganda, look at media reporting of GM. Not much negative there. A multi-billion dollar ad budget from GM assures that. And as far as how long I have been bashing GM and the Volt, thank you for pointing that out. Because when it comes to credibility, I’ll put my record out there to compare with the so-called experts that predicted GM stock investment was a sure-fire winner (now below IPO price) and the Chevy Volt would be a game-changer for GM selling hundreds of thousands a year. How’s that working out for you? Let me guess, the failure was due to the Koch brothers and George Bush criticizing EVs in a plot to kill electric cars?

I don’t love Big Oil, but they pay a heck of a lot more taxes than crony company, GM, who was gifted $30 billion of tax credits by friends in the White House.

“LOL. I don’t know who Mr. Scaife is, but you are definitely over-thinking this.”

Considering Mr. Scaife pays the bills at NLPC, I find that hard to believe.

“...rich people who buy cars like the ELR for $75,000... should not be getting $7,500 tax credits paid for by those who can not afford such vehicles.”

I actually agree with you on this point. I would be happy if the tax credit was only available on cars that cost less than $50,000. I doubt someone in the market for a Tesla or a Cadillac ELR is going to be swayed by $7,500 anyway.

“...which can save Mother Earth from the burning of a maximum of 1 gallon of gas a day”

If by one gallon of gas you are referring to the 38 miles of electric range, then that actually covers the daily work commute of the vast majority of Americans. Which means that ultimately, saving that “1 gallon of gas a day” ends up covering the lion's share of miles driven by those car-owners.

“The other is that government should not create crony corporations like GM by taking over the company and rewarding friends in the UAW along with high paid executives.”

I'm not too happy that the UAW got bailed out, either. In my opinion, they are the reason American automakers have a hard time staying competitive with the rest of the world. I am happy, however, that GM ended up American owned, unlike Chrysler which ended up in the hands of Fiat.

“New GM acts in deceptive manners, my close observations of them over the past five years sees that pattern, The Chevy Volt was over-hyped and never lived up to it. MSM was in on it with major networks blowing the trumpets.”

This is a common refrain I hear from you. For some reason you take the hopeful sales projections that a company makes and then accuse them of all sorts of devious, malicious, and deceptive motivations simply because their product does not sell as well as they wanted.

“If you want to talk about propaganda, look at media reporting of GM. Not much negative there.”

Whereas organizations like yours, funded by oil money, as well as some republican politicians, also funded by oil money, have been on a four year crusade to instill FUD (fear, uncertainty, and doubt) about electric cars. If I were an oil billionaire I would be tempted to use the same tactics, knowing that if electric cars caught on around the world it would have a devastating impact on my personal wealth.

“Because when it comes to credibility, I’ll put my record out there to compare with the so-called experts that predicted GM stock investment was a sure-fire winner (now below IPO price) and the Chevy Volt would be a game-changer for GM selling hundreds of thousands a year.”

This is also a common debate tactic I see you use. It is a logical fallacy known as “false choice.” You see, I don't have to choose between you being wrong and them being wrong. The reality is that you are both wrong!

“How’s that working out for you? Let me guess, the failure was due to the Koch brothers and George Bush criticizing EVs in a plot to kill electric cars?”

Oh, the sweet irony. You see, George W. Bush was the one who actually signed the $7,500 tax rebate into law in the first place. Obama just extended it. Bush was the one who said, “America is addicted to oil,” and, “We will increase our research in better batteries for hybrid and electric cars, and in pollution-free cars that run on hydrogen.” As far as the oil billionaire Koch brothers and how they have lavished their money on campaigns in recent years, I think it is obvious why some republicans feel they have no choice but to be anti-EV nowadays.

“I don’t love Big Oil, but they pay a heck of a lot more taxes than crony company, GM, who was gifted $30 billion of tax credits by friends in the White House.”

The tax breaks given to oil companies over the years makes that $30 billion and the $7,500 rebate program look like chump change in comparison.
