The Obamacare Electronic Health Record is to blame.
As CNSNews.com reported one year ago, a RAND Corporation study conducted for the American Medical Association found that EHRs were a source of frustration for many doctors.
Those surveyed said that current EHR technology interferes with face-to-face discussions with patients; requires physicians to spend too much time performing clerical work; and degrades the accuracy of medical records by encouraging template-generated doctors’ notes.
Former Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius insisted that EHRs would lead to “more coordination of patient care, reduced medical errors, elimination of duplicate screenings and tests, and greater patient engagement in their own care.”
But in the case of the Liberian Ebola patient, a major medical error — the decision to send the sick man home instead of into isolation — is blamed directly on an EHR.
0bamaCare kills!
It is not going to be possible to isolate every arriving person from West Africa with mild symptoms. There are too many of them, and the resources are scarce.
If they need to be isolated, or quarantined, it should be centralized. Assigning ALL hospitals to be responsible means that no one is responsible.
I’m less sure than I was 48 hours ago that the Texas hospital did something wrong. We’ll see.
There are seven flights a day from Brussels to JFK, EWR, and IAD. Assume 250 pax/flight, that’s 12 250 arrivals/week, 367 500 a month. I picked Brussels because we know you can fly there from Monrovia.
If you lived in Liberia, knew you were exposed, but were not sick (yet), wouldn’t YOU be on one of those flights? OF COURSE YOU WOULD.
This is going to become unmanageable, very quickly.
Good piece, EHRs don’t cut it and a recent Doc I was referred to explained when I first saw him that he wanted to personally talk to me about my medical history rather than rely on them.
In my view at this point in time the most dangerous threat to the citizens of this country are the decisions coming out of the WH and the CDC denying travel restrictions.
As a displaced medical transcriptionist due to the ramifications of EMR implementation, all I can say is: I told you so. In addition, the majority of hospitals and clinics in America are now outsourcing their patients’ private medical records to 3rd world countries just to save a buck. This isn’t going to end well, IMO.

Nut-job Conspiracy Theory Ping!
To get onto The Nut-job Conspiracy Theory Ping List you must threaten to report me to the Mods if I don't add you to the list...
I suspect what happened is the guy goes to the ER complaining. He either doesn't give them the full story or there is a language barrier involved. The guy has no insurance and his condition at the time didn't merit extensive testing or hospitalization so they let him go.
We're gonna reduce medical errors.
>>There are too many of them
That is easily fixed in a rational world. Unfortunately, under the current Administration, the world isn’t rational.
the thugocracy just keeps on chugging along
One other thing. Thanks to idiot mandates every time a patient gets seen in the ER the nurses spend an inordinate amount of time asking questions NOT PERTINENT to the visit. They are mandated to ask about things like domestic violence, living conditions, nutrition, falls, some states ask about weapons, vaccines, mammograms, Pap smears, it goes on and on. Then they have to enter it all in the stupid clumsy EMRs. Important information gets overlooked or lost in the noise......
I know. My Wife is an MD. This is a disaster that few Americans outside the medical profession understand. I can only imagine Flu season and Ebola. This will grind most hospitals to a halt.
Again, we are fools to believe these people have our best interests at heart.
They are from the government and here to help.....themselves to our stuff.
Just in time for mid term elections.................
