The Ebola outbreak could skyrocket to between 550,000 cases and 1.4 million cases by 2015 if there is no large-scale intervention, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The CDC warns the epidemic in West Africa could drag on for years if a response isn

More doom and gloom. They forecast death rates that high for swine flu, pine flu, nine flu, bird flu and every other kind of flu. They scared us with hanta virus, banta virus, panta virus and now ebola virus. They are hoping to see cars full of dead people and half of the world’s population wiped out like in Stephen King’s The Stand, or Omega Man, later remade as I Am Legend. This is wishful thinking along the lines of global warming climate change disruption. Tuberculosis is a bigger threat to any of us on a personal level. It comes in quiet, incubates really slowly, and is a bitch to cure, so it has a good ability to spread. And you can get it on the subway or in an airplane and not know it for several years.
I will be damned if I am going to get worked up over a media distraction that with a death rate of 50% has only killed a little over 3000 people. Islam kills that many people every fifteen minutes and we aren’t hearing anything about that. That’s because Islam is more selective than the randomness of epidemiology.
And ask yourself, who is it that is telling me all this stuff? NPR, ABC, CBS, NBC, NYT, CNN, all the same people that tell you global warming is settled science and Obama was born in the USA. Then ask yourself why they are making such a big deal of it when women are getting their heads chopped off in workplace violence incidents, and an election is coming up, and we are 16 trillion dollars in debt with nowhere near 16 trillion dollars to pay it off, and we are borrowing 1 trillion dollars every year to pay back part of the 16 trillion which is now 17 trillion, and Hillary is going to be a historic first women president.
Tell them to go F themselves, keep your hands clean, and don’t get too close to sick people. You will be just fine, and six months from now when they are talking about some other major event like the gang violence in the inner cities from the new immigrant children, you may wonder what you were all worried about in the first place.

I’ve already carried out the math to its ultimate logical conclusion:
Ebola May Infect Earth’s Entire Population by December 1, 2015; 50-75% Fatal

Ebola has been doubling every 3 weeks since January, like clockwork or the national debt. It is just now reaching notable figures. The Black Death and the Justinian plague are things you can’t relate to until they happen. Just trying to collect and treat the sick is spreading the disease. If the numbers get big enough, even the effort to count the sick and bury the dead will break down and there will be no treatment or even feeding of them and it might as well be 1348 or 542 AD. We are almost as powerless against viruses as they were against bacteria.
If someone with Ebola were to spend one day infecting people who pass through the Chicago airport, how fast would it spread through the USA?
Is the difference in reported fatality rates tied to with/without treatment? I can forsee things getting so swamped that many end up getting the bums rush instead of solid treatment.
Which is a drawn out, frightening way for them to ask for a bigger appropriation.
How is that our problem? Oh, wait: Obama is purposely importing it into the US to kill us.

Bring Out Your Dead
Were gonna need
a bigger cart!
Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the Bring Out Your Dead ping list (formerly the Ebola ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the Bring Out Your Dead threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
Yes, yes, yes, but will it affect Christmas shopping???
Yep. At some point, people barricade themselves in their homes, society shuts down, and the disease sputters out.
10%? 15%? I can't remember, been awhile since I read anything on it.
But yes - lots of FReepers looking at this as an exponential growth situation, when it isn't. It's still awful, but hysteria serves no purpose.
No....it does not...
But I was just informed on another thread that “panic” was a good thing....flight or fight thing, ya know....:-)
But "We'll all be wiped out by Christmas" talk is irresponsible. Hopefully cooler and wiser heads will prevail.
And, it's worth remembering that Lots of FReepers - who've been looking forward to the end of the world so they finally can use their prep supplies and shout 'SEE, I TOLD YOU SO!!' - have been watching this situation and rubbing their hands with glee.
Well, I certainly agree with that..
In some ways I can understand the argument, but I was expecting a financial collapse and not a panic stricken ebola outbreak that seems so remote at this time..
But what the heck,,,,I have done what I could do, and it’s like peeing into a hurricane.
Whatever happens , happens and there is nothing I can do about it. But I am not happy about the market drop yesterday and I feared it would continue today. But it looks like we will close at a no gain, no loss number..(after much gyration)
Thanks for the ping!
Youre Welcome, Alamo-Girl!
