If the worst Ebola outbreak in recorded history reaches the United States, federal law permits "the apprehension and examination of any individual reasonably believed to be infected with a communicable disease". These individuals can be "detained for such time and in such manner as may be reasonably necessary". In other words, the federal government already has the authority to round people up against their will, take them to detention facilities and hold them there for as long as they feel it is "reasonably necessary". In addition, as you will read about below, the federal government has the authority "to separate and restrict the movement of well persons who may have been exposed to a communicable disease to see if they become ill". If you want to look at these laws in the broadest sense, they pretty much give the federal government the power to do almost anything that they want with us in the event of a major pandemic. Of course such a scenario probably would not be called "martial law", but it would probably feel a lot like it.
If Ebola comes to America and starts spreading, one of the first things that would happen would be for the CDC to issue "a federal isolation or quarantine order". The following is what the CDC website says about what could happen under such an order...
Isolation and quarantine are public health practices used to stop or limit the spread of disease.
Isolation is used to separate ill persons who have a communicable disease from those who are healthy. Isolation restricts the movement of ill persons to help stop the spread of certain diseases. For example, hospitals use isolation for patients with infectious tuberculosis.

Now imagine that you are not infected, but because they say you may be infected then they stick you in with a few people who are. When you get sick and die then they can say that you were infected all along.
Well this could end up very ugly.
I think worst case would be a three week vacation for everyone.
The old, “Shelter in place” chestnut.
And if Ebola breaks out in ANY city in this country, they will simply shut down.
It would ruin the economy and people will be hungry. But they cannot physically quarantine the numbers being tossed around.
So...in the end we are all responsible for our own safety.
That's a far cry from having the logistics capability, regardless of the papers they wave around.

This entire thing was ENGINEERED by obozo and his mendacious “Never let a crisis go to waste” minions to serve multiple New World Order mandates:
1. Flood the country with thousands of NEW almost certainly welfare conditioned LEFTIST DEMOCRAT (but I repeat myself) voters, making it unlikely or IMPOSSIBLE for another party to win a national election. Why do you think obozo and holder are fighting tooth and nail to prevent states from requiring POSITIVE PROOF OF CITIZENSHIP on election day?
2. Fulfill the prime goal of the Cloward-Piven plan to further drain the already empty treasury and COLLAPSE the welfare and related systems and engender anger and push-back from the shrinking minority of generally older Americans who STILL understand and appreciate the system the Founders strove to leave us now being destroyed by this gang of criminals now in the highest levels of this government.
3. If the aforementioned “push-back” should escalate into violence against these criminals, the millions around us who — thanks largely to the media and government schools — don’t have a clue concerning what we’re about to lose will cry out for “somebody do something and restore law and order”. And we’ll get ORDER in the form of martial law. But there will be NO LAW except that which our new masters will then impose on ALL of us.

While that action would be a clear violation of Posse Comitatus (the suspension of which was supported by then GOP Senator John Warner), who says these would be U.S. troops?? Think about facing FOREIGN TROOPS — being trained here all the time — on YOUR street. The Soviets used foreign troops to crush the Czech, Hungarian and other revolts back in the day.

These criminals have been employing Herr Hegel’s technique for decades. For another example, think GLOBAL WARMING! Entry into the country is a federal concern and the CDC can guide and advise the states. I hope that at least the medical community learned from the Spanish Flu.
That doesn't sound like border control (Ha!) to me.
Feds try exercising police powers like that in the States, there may well be pushback.
Recent events have shown that people won't put up with it.
The Feds did squat all during the Spanish flu epidemic, including at the WWI camps. Thousands died.
Waiting on government to do something right is a long wait where a train don't come.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
That said, it was a different age back then and for slow-moving diseases such as typhoid or cholera it was, in the absence of better medical knowledge, a reasonably effective praxis. Not so for such diseases as Ebola or, as JRandom pointed out, Spanish Flu. There absolutely were isolation wards and quarantine for the latter in 1919, and it didn't help.
The problem is that such diseases tend to overwhelm the machinery intended to contain them. Who guards the guardians? When the keepers are sick themselves, who mans the guard posts and the barricades?
I suggest that as a ploy for locking up political opponents, this will be after the damage is done and far too late to have the desired effect. Great fantasy fare, but I don't think it's likely to go down that way. Just my $0.02.
