Doctors in Gaza did not need to read a warning from the World Health Organization to know that their health care system was collapsing under Israeli attack.
Hospitals were overwhelmed by hundreds of casualties, including small children.
It was getting worse every day, and Egypt’s refusal to open its border made things worse still.
"The recent escalation of violence in the Gaza Strip raises concern about the ability of the government and the Ministry of Health of the occupied Palestinian territory to cope with the increased burden of medical emergencies on the health system, given the high levels of shortages of medicines, medical disposables and hospital fuel supplies, and rising healthcare debt," WHO said in a statement.
WHO also said, “A hospital, three clinics and a water desalinization center in a refugee camp have also been damaged. More airstrikes and missile attacks are likely.”
On Thursday evening, Israel fired four bombs at the fourth floor of Al Wafa rehabilitation hospital in al-Shujaiyya neighborhood in the east of Gaza City, wrecking the hospital.
"The response and preparedness of the health sector is at very low level, and we are concerned about a possible collapse of health services. We are making an urgent appeal for $40 million to support the Ministry of Health in providing essential supplies for health care sufficient for six months," said Dr. Ala Alwan, WHO regional director for the Eastern Mediterranean.
In the same context, the French medical organization Doctors Without Borders also warned on Friday that the response to emergency needs at hospitals in Gaza could worsen quickly "due to already existing chronic shortages of drugs and disposables."
Meanwhile, the United Arab Emirates pledged to send at least $25 million in humanitarian aid to Gaza as Israeli airstrikes continue, AFP reported Thursday.
UAE's state news agency WAM said that the Emirate Red Crescent will supervise the delivery of the aid and will also set up a field hospital in the Palestinian territory "to help the victims of the Israeli aggression."
On his side, Robert Turner, the director of operations in Gaza at the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees, confirmed that his organization on Thursday declared a state of emergency in all five areas of its operations in the densely populated Gaza Strip.
UNRWA is ready to provide whatever emergency assistance it can, should the situation deteriorate even further, Turner said. He also urged all parties to exercise restraint to prevent further escalation of the situation.
Turner said dozens of Palestinians have been killed and injured "as a result of the apparently deliberate targeting of residences."
That included Dr. Anas Abu al-Kas, who was killed for treating suspected Hamas fighters.
According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, as of 6 p.m. Friday, Israel had killed 114 people and injured 826 since beginning its military operation in Gaza.
The world must be confused. No deaths in Israel and more than 100 in Gaza. Some reports said hundreds of rockets were fired at Israel from Gaza, others said thousands.
But with no deaths in Israel, was this response proportional?

Proportionality became mathematically undefined when Gaza launched its missiles.
Israel should carpet-bomb Gaza with neutron bombs, wait a few months for the stench and residual radioactivity to dissipate, and then occupy the territory!

Your complaint is based on proportionality.
But it is a false complaint because Hamas, your elected government, is certainly trying to inflict as many casualties on Israel as it can. It is only the “Iron Dome” defensive measures that are mitigating the casualties by letting Israel know which missiles will fall harmlessly and which ones need to be intercepted.
There isn't a single critical word in your commentary about Hamas’ disproportionate response to the revenge killing of the Palestinian youth (a horrific crime) or the murders of three Israeli teenagers which provoked it (an equally horrific crime).
And we know why you didn't mention Hamas. In Gaza, to criticize Hamas is to invite death to your door. So, in your intimidated, cowardly way, you displace from what ought to be the legitimate institution of blame, Hamas, and instead blame Israel, as if it just got up one morning and decided, for no particular reason, to start blowing up Gaza.
No. You don't get to have it both ways. Your government doesn't get to fire hundreds, perhaps thousands, of rockets into a sovereign country and have these attacks ignored simply because Israel has an effective defense system to protect its citizens. You have not right to demand that Israel not make a vigorous response in reply. Yet even when it does strike back, Israeli attempts to warn Gaza civilians in order to reduce casualties. Hamas tells its citizens ro ignore the warnings. Israel says the strikes and incursions will stop when the rocket attacks stop. Hamas fires more rockets.
No, it is your government that, by its actions, is responsible for those children's injuries and deaths. At least have the moral courage to place the blame where it really lies, Hamas.
The unruly Palis should be thankful for the self-restraint of the Israelis. If the shoe were on the other foot, the total destruction of Israel would be the result.

I would say that if Gaza decided to stop making war and concentrated on building up a peaceful economy, it has the warm climate and location on the Mediterranean to be a great tourist area. Of course, being Palestinians, they never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity.
They need to help the Isaerli’s put an end to Hamas and this will stop being an issue.

Doctors and health care givers here in the US understand...they, too are attempting to perform their job with their hands tied. How’s that working out for you. Our men/women deserve their own angel and medal. The do what they can the best they can and continue to proceed from there. Chances are many are assisting with little or no pay considering what our Banana Republic is taking from all persons here in America. Though not fond of the medical profession in general....find them to be dedicated, admired individuals and thank God for them.
How many different homes of hers got bombed the last time round.
I know I found at least three different photos of her in different dresses.
