Those were the days. It was June, 2011. 24,000 pages of former Gov. Sarah Palins emails were released by the state of Alaska. She had resigned as governor nearly two years before, and was by then a happy private citizen.
The media were so interested in getting into every nook and cranny of those emails that they facilitated their release, and then crowdsourced processing them. The Guardian even published a guide.
We think its important to get the documents out into the world as soon as possible and see what you think about them just like we did with MPs expenses, the Guardian wrote at the time.
The LA Times got in on the act. So did the Daily Beast. The Washington Post published a full searchable database of all 24,000 pages.
Mother Jones bragged that its own David Corn had gotten the emails released in the first place. Corn himself live blogged every discovery, as if he was Indiana Jones hunting the Lost Ark.
Hes a tool like that.
Palins emails turned out to be mundane stuff. There was no scandal in there, just waiting for the intrepid reporter to unearth it and put it in the Newseum.
The lost IRS emails are from the 2009 to 2011 the period during which the IRS is accused of targeting conservatives for abuse, to such an extent that the tax agency may have impacted the 2012 election. Accused the IRS admitted to the targeting, before blaming it on rogue officers, before losing thousands of emails between Lerner and persons unknown outside the IRS itself.
Thats a big deal. If nothing else, access to the emails could prove whether the agency and the likes of Lois Lerner are guilty or innocent. An intrepid reporter could discredit Rep. Darrell Issa and his committee investigation pretty thoroughly.
Or they could prove that the IRS has been weaponized. They could even take down a sitting president. That opportunity doesnt come along very often.
But Mother Jones doesnt care. David Corn isnt interested in the IRS emails, lost or not, at all. The Guardian isnt crowdsourcing anything, isnt talking with IT experts about the likelihood of the agency losing anybodys emails, let alone the emails of 7 central scandal figures. The Washington Post relegates the scandal to a mere controversy, a far cry from the heyday of Woodward and Bernstein.
None of these media outlets are actively investigating the IRS, its targeting or its lost emails.
Because theyre partisan hacks like that.
US legacy news media - no credibility.
But they aren’t biased, they told us so!
/ snerk
The so called media needs to be put in their place with extreme prejudice and that is all I am going to say.......
The Media Practically pissed themselves over what dirt they could get on Sarah with those E-Mails.
And what did they Find?
NOTHING!
If you live an Honest Life, you need not fear the truth.
The media was obsessed with Sarah Palin’s emails because they hate her, they were hoping something, anything in those emails would destroy her..and it showed absolutely NOTHING, that Sarah is not corrupt, the media had egg on their face yet again, but what else is knew, they despise Conservatives
You can’t walk six inches without tripping over the media bias and hypocrisy.
I remember this so well. Even CNN and others sent reporters all the way up to Alaska for “live” reports of the release of Palin’s e-mails. I remember the sheer giddiness of the reporters, all dead-certain there would be all sorts of things in the e-mails they could grab and thus show Palin in a bad light. But, the e-mails showed just the opposite. They showed what a top-notch, hands-on governor Palin was, always combatting corruption, and always conforming to her state’s Constitution. Hence, the media dropped the whole e-mail story like a rock.
But, that still wasn’t enough. A few days later, some media outlets took out-of-context an e-mail sent to her chief-of-staff, concerning some criticism by political foes arguing about conflicts of interest regarding her husband Todd’s work at BP and Palin’s energy policies. Palin had very obviously joked in the e-mail to the effect that “maybe they’d like her to get a divorce.” Anyway, some media scum took this little item and twisted it into the headline smear “E-mails reveal marital problems, talk of divorce, between the Palins,” reporting it in a completely serious tone!
Duplicitous scumbaggery doesn’t even begin to describe the many ways the media has slimed Palin, over the years.
But Sarah Palin DESERVED it. /s
yeah they try get her Yahoo email acct
Nobody used Yahoo I don’t know anybody LOL!
yeah my uncle told me at the time that NBC reporter babe didn’t like to be in Fairbanks AK at the time it start cold LOL!
Seriously LOL!
They were not very interested in the “climategate” emails either.
Remember, the old media has defined a “scandal” as something that The Washington Times defines as a “scandal”.
If The Washington Times does not cover it, is it a scandal? Not according to the old media.
What? I’m curious what your line of thinking is, I hardly believe ‘the young’ are driving this crap. They couldn’t even get enough youngens to vote in their hero Ron paul.
The young are where the energy is, but it's being driving by leftists experienced in manipulation.
That's why the left have taken over education -- that's where the young are.
Doesn’t comport to them driving this. Yes, the marxists have swarmed the campus’ but I guarantee you, not every college kid falls for this hollow promise.
Thanks for the reply, I just happen to disagree with you.
