This is really sad. Back in the early 90's Haley Barbour was the architect of the party that Newt Gingrich used to overthrow the democrat majority for the first time in a lifetime. Karl Rove and George Bush were nothing but pimples on your ass back then when the real victory happened. Those here too young to know about that, will not understand what their elders did on their behalf.

To see Haley Barbour turn into a crass sellout like this therefore is just wrong.

That is such a myth you are buying into. Barbour and Gingrich were never conservative, but they read the the electorate correctly and peddled what they needed to, with every intention of abandoning it as soon as they could. Barbour is not a sell out, he was never a conservative and only believes in the most naked self interest.
