On Monday, despite House Majority Leader Eric Cantor's (R-VA) shocking primary loss last week that was viewed as a referendum against amnesty legislation, former Mississippi Governor and lobbyist Haley Barbour said the House could still pass amnesty legislation this year.
"I don't think Eric's loss should have anything to do with it," Barbour said at the New York Meeting before pushing for a bill that would give a pathway to citizenship to "everybody's who's here illegally" so long as they confess they are in America illegally, pay fines and back taxes, and are put on probation.
Barbour said the House should pass "a very strong bill" that is to the right of the Senate's comprehensive amnesty bill and emphasized that "we gotta control the border at the end of the day or the American people will have a right to be furious with us."

This is sure to help his friend, Thad Cochran, in his runoff election in MS. Never did like Haley Barbour. He was a LOUSY RNC Chmn. When Clinton was vulnerable, Barbour decided to sit on a huge pile of GOP cash, rather than begin early to frame the ‘96 debate against him. By the time Barbour decided to part with the cash, it was too late. And Bob Dole was a lethargic candidate, to boot.
Nothing. It subsidizes packing plants in Mississippi.
Someone different's paying the bills these days ! :o)
“we gotta control the border at the end of the day or the American people will have a right to be furious with us.”
I am already furious and I already have a right to be furious, the border was not protected after the last amnesty by democrats or Republicans or lobbyist. Why in hell would any sane person believe any of your promises to protect our borders or enforce immigration laws? Enforce current immigration laws and protect our borders for the next thirty years as was promised after the last amnesty 30 years ago and possibly there will be something to talk about. I’m sorry Governor Barbour, I have voted for and defended you in the past but with your push for amnesty and your push to control a Senate seat where Senator Cochran is obviously no longer capable of carrying out his duties or be able to chair the Appropriations Committee if Republicans carry the Senate. You have lost all credibility with me and I will not support you again and anyone you endorse is now suspect, for all I care you can go back to DC and take Henry, who apparently believes he is the Republican party in Mississippi, with you.
I agree 100%.
Didn’t this weak sister Vichy Republican pardon murderers not long ago?
you, sir, are a pathetic paid off hack selling snake oil. get lost.

Thought he was one of the good guys years ago.

Same here. He and quite a few others had me fooled.
Mind your language please; there are ladies present.
Yep, we will need lots of velvet theatre ropes when Jose and Pedro queue up to pay those fines and back taxes. Theyre just so honest.
(((
Yep.
Haley, don’t you have a demented incumbant to get re-elected? Why you messing around on the national scene?
Good point. A lot of people — the husband included — like Newt because he is glib and can land a zinger on the Rats from time to time.
I have cheered his barbs myself on occasion, but I know it’s all a show. He’s a good actor and shallow like most actors.
So, “Boss Hog” Barbour is not only going after the Black Dem vote, he’s also going after the Mexican vote. McDaniel supporters: Do not become complacent. This thing is not over yet! In case anyone missed it, see the thread below:

Haley is not dumb but a conniving “good ol’ boy” who has twice tricked the people of MS, and maybe a third time too on June 24.
He was just following the precedent of neighboring Governor Huckabee!! Neither were what they claimed to be.
Newtie did something most pols don’t do; he even changed denominations from Baptist to Catholic.
If MS voters have not yet THad Enough, then they will be the demented ones.
the real story is about the $$$ in MS.
Also do not forget Mississippi is the most corrupt state in the union. Zombie voters who still vote after Katrina still abound.
