Bookworm, that was one of the best summation of the case for guns I have ever seen. It was evidence based, and hit on almost every important point. If you were to refresh your article, I would add that guns are the great equalizer for potential victims, the physically weak or the ones who can’t outrun trouble. Hence, guns are of greatest benefit to women, and those who want to disarm women essentially want to leave them helpless.

Very nice. I have some progressive friends who will be getting it in the mail but I doubt they will get it. The anti-gun organizations are controlled by a bunch of elites who could rarely, if ever, expect to be confronted by gun violence. Since they can't rely on time proven statistics, they instead wage a war of propaganda in a most accommodating news media. They drum up support among the uneducated (as to true gun violence) and hope for a swell of empathetic voters to pass legislation. While appearing “noble” in their cause, the underlying purpose is more government control. Their war against guns is an assault on personal freedom and the right of an individual to defend him or herself. The unintended consequences of their legislation is enslavement of segments of the population by street thugs. Just look at any poor neighborhood in a locality with strict gun control (Chicago and Washington immediately come to mind) for the results of their efforts. Take away guns and knives, baseball bats, etc. become their weapons. The difference is these weapons require close contact and a young, angry thug has every advantage over the elderly and disabled. The gun is the only available equalizer for many and its” presence serves to maintain some degree of civility among the masses.
