The rocket of my childhood.

I once played sick to stay home from school so that I could see one of these missions launch.

My how times have changed. Now they don’t go to school so they can burglarize houses while people are at work...

It may be the rocket of your childhood but that was the rocket of my (our dreams). What a magnificent, splendorous thing of beauty. OMG! Elegant, graceful, a singular object of wonder lifting off that luanch pad in slow motion, 7.5 pounds of thrust battling the forces of gravity every inch of the way. The vibrations within the command module so overwhelming the astronauts could not get their eyes focused on a single gauge. The Saturn V, a thing of wonder the greatest technological tour-de-force of the 20th century. Gone forever. You couldn't build one now if you tried.

I worked at the Manned Spacecraft Center (now LBJ) during Apollo 7,8,9,10,11, and 12. If you visit there now and go to Rocket Park, there is an Apollo launch vehicle complete from the first stage to the launch escape system (LES) in a climate controlled building. It was restored and enclosed after years of neglect in the open air.
