Border Patrol Union Wants Tougher Stance on Illegal Crossings

McALLEN - Border Patrol agents in the Rio Grande Valley sector are calling for authorities to do something about the increase in illegal border crossings.

The agents said they want relief from an overwhelming number of illegal immigrants clogging the Border Patrol station in McAllen.

Border Patrol officials said they will install portable buildings at the station to relieve overcrowding. The agents say that is not enough.

The sector is experiencing a massive influx of illegal immigrants from countries other than Mexico.

"It's just going to continue to climb, and climb and climb. For some reason, the word is out in their home country, and they're coming in droves," said Chris Cabrera, vice president of the National Border Patrol Council Local 3307.

The union is concerned about the health of their agents.

"Obviously, the scabies ... there are a lot of bacterial infections our agents have gotten recently," Cabrera said.

"When these guys are getting tied up processing these insane numbers of illegal immigrants coming in, it's preventing them from doing their jobs of being on the frontline and protecting the nation's borders," Cabrera said.

The McAllen Border Patrol station is at the heart of the problem. The station is only meant to accommodate 459 people. There are currently more than 1,000 illegal immigrants at the site.

The city of McAllen fire marshal is working with Border Patrol to get the occupancy in the station down to code.

"They're talking about three to four portable buildings. They're (also) shuffling busloads to Laredo and El Paso," McAllen Fire Marshal Juan Salinas said.

The portable structures will be sent to the Valley from Arizona.

The city is expediting the permit process.

Cabrera says that's not enough.

"Something needs to be done," he said.

For some reason, the word is out in their home country, and they're coming in droves.

A resident who constantly promises to give them the country and a speaker who quivers like jello have done this.

I haven’t heard of scabies in 70 years. Awful.

Obama is hell bent on taking Texas down one way or the other. Wonder if any of our politicians are even considering the possibility that we could literally have millions streaming across the southern border between Mexico and Texas or if any of them will take time out from campaigning to do something about it.

It’s soon going to be too late.

But somehow the number of illegals in the country remains at 11 million now matter how many come in. Georg Cantor would be driven even madder by that math.

They are arresting 1100 A DAY at this station. Most are released in to the US. BP estimates that they catch 20-60%.

Let's say they catch 50%. That's 2200 a day, 730,000 illegals a year into the US through this station a year.

Multiplied by the 5 yrs of the regime that's a conservative 3,650,000 illegals entering through this 1 station and disappearing into the US, on welfare, in gangs...

This is an invasion. Shoot a few, it should tail off. Defend the border with gunfire. That will discourage these illegal aliens.

What is happening in that sector is that only 25% of the detainees are Mexicans. The rest are from Central America and get released with a court date that they aren’t going to show up for. What a great system.

Another big issue is organizational inertia within the Border Patrol. It takes a lot of resources to plus up an area like the RGV with enough TDY agents to put a dent in the problem. It takes way longer to shift guys permanently. It isn’t like the military where if you need to go somewhere you pack a tent and go.

It is very scary.

Perhaps a dumb question - just asking as I don’t know. I do know that the Fed Gov’t is supposed to protect our borders; however, could the Governor put the state’s National Guard on the border? Seems to me that protection of its citizens is also a state rights issue.

I believe only the Feds can deport illegals but perhaps a huge amount of armed guards (Nat’l Guards) on the border would be a deterent.

I read another article about many children crossing the border alone. Which is another huge issue.

It’s an organized effort because the left laps it up, they are sending those kids across the border on purpose to crash what little system is left
