Lest we forget that this day started not as a holiday but as a day of somber remembrance, todays Memorial Day post is dedicated to our countrys fallen heroes; the 1.4 million men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in wars waged across centuries in order to preserve the principles of freedom and liberty.
So let us pause a moment and bow our heads in their memory as we reflect what a different world we would live in, were it not for their sacrifice.
Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
Let us also remember our part in the sacred trust between us and our warriors: they fight so that we might be free.
Refuse to be enslaved. To ensure they have not died in vain.

Have an Blessed Decoration Day!
Right around 10 percent of my USMC Boot Camp platoon of 70-odd (1966) died in Vietnam.
Thank you for your service, Sir.
May Mr Obama remain silent....and invisible on this Decoration Day

Good one.
Let's take an honest minute today,
to say a short prayer for
all who serve and all who wait through sleepless nights
at home hoping their loved ones are safe.
The best tribute to veterans is memory. So the best Memorial Day party has a theme of veteran’s stories, in particular the best veteran’s stories you know, be they yours or some other veteran’s.
They might be from a story you heard, a book you read, war stories, peacetime stories, strange and unusual, funny or serious, and it is important that they are many and varied.
Importantly, it shouldn’t matter if the subjects involved are no longer around. For that evening, for that story, they live again in memory.
