Eric Shinseki–VA Secretary
Coach is Right ^ | 5/24/14 | Michael D. Shaw

You may know about his two combat tours in Vietnam, and that he blew off the front part of one of his feet when he stepped on a land mine.

Here are three things I bet you don’t know (courtesy of some insiders at the VA):

1. His limo is cleaned up to three times per day...

In a peace time army, Generals are the ones who are semi-competent who can kiss the correct political ass. There are lots and lots of incompetents in high office both in the military and civilian fields.

For those who didn’t click the link:

1. His limo is cleaned up to three times per day, as he is obsessed with the spotlessness of his car.

2. At all staff meetings, those in attendance must stand at attention as he enters the room.

3. He is widely perceived within the agency as having zero leadership ability, and his memos are routinely mocked.

He must be good at following orders of 0 and not talking against 0 or he would have been gone like the other 300

I remember in the early 2000’s the Rangers were pissed when Shitski ordered black berets for all Army personnel when they had worked so hard to earn it. He definitely is a Marxist.

Pretty Boys and Warriors, the two flavors of senior officers in the military. Many more politically-connected Pretty Boys than common sense Warriors. Shineseki was and is a Pretty Boy.

I know him personally. I interacted with him mostly on a peer to peer basis although he was clearly on the fast track and I was not. He had a a good reputation as a squadron commander and I got along with him when he was a Division and Corps G3.

I knew him at a stage in his career when competence was the most important element of success. I thought him to be very competent. As you move up the line, personal relationships and willingness to support what the leadership wants becomes more important.

What surprises me is his apparent hands off behavior at VA. He certainly didn’t learn that leadership style in the Army and that’s certainly counter to his earlier reputation.

“I remember in the early 2000’s the Rangers were pissed when Shitski ordered black berets for all Army personnel when they had worked so hard to earn it. He definitely is a Marxist.”

At the last AUSA annual meeting in DC prior to his retirement and while he was still Army Chief of Staff, the speaker who was introducing Shinseki recounted his accomplishments. This speaker stated that Shinseki’s greatest accomplishment was the black beret. When I first heard of this, I thought it had to be a joke but others assured me that it was not, that this was a very big deal.

I’m sure at a personal he’s livid but it’s obvious he’s become a political general and giving in to the bureaucrats. He’s being set up to take the fall and it’s funny how no Asian special interest groups aren’t coming to his defense. You know if Shinseki was black or hispanic there would be hell to pay, and look how easily white liberal politicians are so eager for this guy to be thrown under the bus.

He has stayed beyond his expiration date. He should be fired and I was expecting that to happen on Friday. More evidence of Obama’s complete inability to have any empathy with the American people.

He sounds like a modern Lieutenant Commander Phillip Queeg.

Yep, we were pissed. I have it on good authority that Shinseki made that dictate because when he was the adjutant of 3rd ACR at Ft Bliss, he had to give up his black tanker beret. This was in the mid seventies when units throughout the Army went beret crazy. The then CSA put a stop to it and only allowed airborne, ranger units and SF soldiers to wear their distinctive berets.

So yeah, Shinseki already had a reputation as a little dillitante prick.

Queeg was mentally ill, as was made quite clear in the book and film. Is this Shinseki’s case?

That was HIS work? I thought it was Clinton's big idea, just before he left office.

I still get heartburn when I see the beret worn as standard cover, unearned.

We have always been at war with East Asia..in fact we have been continuously at war with someone for at least the last 11 or 12 years. What peace time?

The biggest problem at the VA is the unions who make it impossible to fire anyone, no matter how egregious the behavior. Don’t expect the Dems to do anything substantive.

Cleaned three times a day? And many of us thought the soon to be president’s plane was stinky! Liberals are very strange entities.
