Airport police: Fox's Gregg Jarrett 'very intoxicated' and combative before arrest

Fox News anchor Gregg Jarrett, said by the network to be on leave to address “serious personal issues,” has been charged with a misdemeanor after his arrest in a Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport bar, where he was “very intoxicated” and combative toward officers.

Jarrett, 59, is charged in Hennepin County District Court with a misdemeanor, obstructing the legal process and interfering with a police officer. His arraignment is scheduled in an Edina courtroom June 6.

The weekend co-anchor on the Fox News Channel was arrested about 12:40 p.m. Wednesday at Northern Lights Grill in the main terminal, said airport spokesman Patrick Hogan.

Jarrett was in Minnesota for alcohol or chemical dependency treatment, according to a detailed police accounting of the incident.

An employee called police to say Jarrett “appeared to be acting very intoxicated,” according to an Airport Police Department report released Thursday.

Officers responded and found Jarrett to be “uncooperative, resistant and combative” during his arrest, according to the report. It did not disclose whether he had his blood-alcohol level measured by police.

Jarrett, who calls the New York City suburb of Larchmont home, posted $300 bond and was released from custody shortly after 1:30 a.m. Thursday, according to jail records. His jail mug shot shows him with a full salt-and-pepper beard, a different look than the typically close-shaven appearance that viewers were used to seeing.

Jarrett has yet to respond to telephone and e-mail messages seeking comment about his arrest....

Remember, children, addiction is a disease. It’s just like cancer. Mr. Jarrett has no control over his life choices. He cannot be fired. He is protected under the American Disabilities Act.

We must not bully Mr. Jarrett and make fun of him. Bullying is a federal offense now.

Mr. Jarrett deserves his announcer job back even if he slurs his words on air and falls off his stool. Everyone among us mispronounces his words now and then. Everyone accidentally trips over his feet on occasion. Who are we to judge?

He looks like some one who was rode hard and put away wet. I hope he decides that getting help would make his life better. I feel most sorry for his family. Alcoholics (and this guy has all the looks and behaviors) put others through hell

Jarrett has a couple of kids; he talks about them periodically on Fox. If I remember right, they are girls. Has an obvious drinking problem. He used to be overweight, and lost a lot of pounds. I’ll bet he was drinking a lot more to compensate for attempting not to eat as much. I have known people who have done so, and it seems a bunch of Hollywood women that are skinny are also big boozers. Of course they drink wine or vodka or other lower calorie drinks, but can still get loaded to forget how hungry they are, lol.

Pray for the man. I stopped drinking cold turkey after decades
of consumption. At the end I was drinking at least two gallons of
Vodka per week. Enough, I just stopped. That was 2011 and I still get the
cold sweats from my body or brain wanting that drink. I don't want it but
I can tell my body or brain was craving it. I wonder if that will ever go away.

And I keep a bottle of Jack in the fridge for steak sauce. Never once
thinking about indulging. Maybe it's a choice some cannot muster.

I’m no expert..but alcoholism is definitely genetic..children of alcoholics are much more likely to succumb to the disease themselves..

Bingo. I have seen that firsthand amongst families of friends and some shirttail relatives. One can see examples of this phenomena all over the place. Just look at American Indians and many Japanese as well. Definite genetic component.

I hope he gets treatment and sticks to it in order to put himself in remission from this progressive medical condition known as alcoholism. It’s estimated that a full 10% of the population can’t handle the stuff. I suspect that figure might actually be higher than that.

As for Big Alcohol, their label “warnings” are laughable. “Drink Responsibly”. Suuure. If an alcoholic COULD drink responsibly, they WOULD. But they CAN’T, so they DON’T.

BTW, there is a disappointing amount of critical, compassionless comments from some posters on this thread. How about we act like conservatives and not like liberals, hmmmmm? How about lifting a prayer for this man and his family and their suffering instead?

I did not like him back in the OJ days. I thought he was arrogant and condescending. Over the years, he grew on me and I do like him. I am sorry he is going through this and hope he gets the help he needs.
