RAINS COUNTY, Texas A grand jury has indicted a former Rains County deputy on an animal cruelty charge over the controversial shooting of a familys dog last month.
Jerrod Dooley, 32, has been charged with a state jail felony, punishable by up to two years behind bars. Dooley was fired last month within days of the shooting that sparked a national furor after the dogs owner went public with his story.

a little dachshund?
..some big (6'2/240 lbs) LEO shot a (hot dog)
dachshund?..was LEO protecting his pastry?
I guess, I shouldn't be surprised; a Chicago ELO, killed
a caged parakeet, just to intimidate a citizen.

I hope they nail his sorry a@@ to the wall. Perhaps this will be a good warning to those JBTs out there who think they can kill peoples’ pets any time they want to.

Maybe he had a new type of gun that shoots around corners.

How about sit, down, but get back? I have never told a dog to get back. I don’t think back is something a dog is familiar with hearing. But sit and down are commonly used. Might have been a better choice of recognizable words. For the dog that is.

How about, ‘Stay’?
This guy is a doosh.
Need to prosecute a few more. Two cops in Denver have been brought up on charges for a very egregious killing of a dog. When a few draw jail time this crap will ease.
The next step is to start demanding drug testing of all LEO’s...especially for steroids.

1. He shot the dog in the back of the head. If she were charging and he had no way to get away, the shout would’ve been in the front.
2. After the shooting, he shows a complete lack of remorse. I’m sure he feels bad NOW that he’s facing consequences, but he sure as hell didn’t at the time.

I was very happy to hear about this indictment. :)
It won’t help this guy out that he hired an “out of county” attorney. Especially one that goes on tv and shoots his mouth off about local issues.

Thanks for the ping. I had posted a thread on this when it happened. I actually had a FReeper sticking up for the cop on this dog shooting while he was defending the cop that shot a 93 year old woman. He will be disappointed if he sees this thread.

“Partner, you’re about to be upset, but your dog charged me and I had to shoot it,” he said.
Middleton has said that the bullet struck her in the back of her head and came out one of the dogs eyes.
The dog must have been charging him by running at him backwards..
