Ironic huh? I challenge my left wing congresswomen Nita Lowey now all of a sudden, for the first time in 27 years, i get audited....i'm now suppose to prove that i paid the $21K plus in real estate and school taxes which they charge me (and i pay)...i'm also expected to not only provide my daughters birth certificate but proves she lives with us for the child care credit...

any ideas???

Thx ... I vividly remember the event for obvious reasons, but especially because I challenged one of their findings.
I called two other IRS offices in two different cities and not unexpectedly, got two different answers.
Long story short - my case ended up with another local IRS agent and he agreed with me. Case closed.

Yep, get a tax attorney to represent you because the IRS has no problem breaking the law in order to intimidate you into paying more taxes.

Those questions should be easy to answer. Go to the local tax collector and get receipts. Go to her school and get report cards showing your address, doctor bills, daycare receipts, etc.

We always counsel parents who share custody, especially in the same town as the other parent, to be sure and change the address on the above items, even if only for a short time. Establish the paper trail.

If that’s all they want, it’s pretty routine.

Then why are you worried? Your account wouldn't have claimed a deduction unless he had the document in front of his face.
You have to maintain tax records for 3 years, so either he or you must still have them ... get them.
But if he took (suspect) deductions w/o your knowledge, then he's on the hook, not you.

understand- but i’m sure like you as my wife and I work fulltime +...all this running around to prove I paid this stuff is BS...i don’t mind some of what they are asking for but their municipal offices have on record i paid, their local schools have on file my daughter is there....its this BS stuff that annoys the hell out of me...

bad enough I work 70 hours a week and not only pay my bills but the bills of the slugs who pay nothing- I know have to show records which are already in their possession that I paid???
