How's this for a Throwback Thursday? These. Are. AMAZING!
This is a whole new level of photoshop. There are tons of photos brought to life with color at the Colorized History section of Reddit. I picked out 15 that I thought were particularly cool. I had to force myself to stop at 15 or this would be the post that never ends.
Click on the image to see it at full size.
Lincoln meeting with General McClellan in 1862
Confederate General Robert E. Lee one week after his surrender to Grant.
Teddy Roosevelt in his Rough Rider days.
The Brooklyn Bridge, circa 1904
Egypt circa 1907
Boys selling flowers in Union Square circa 1908
Boy selling news paper breaking the sinking of the Titanic in 1912
Girls delivering ice in 1918
When Hellen Keller met Charlie Chaplan
Miss America 1924.
A Dust Bowl famer, circa 1936.
The construction of the Golden Gate Bridge, circa 1935.
The first class of Tuskeegee Airmen
Times Square, 1947.
Senator John F. Kennedy, 1958.
Never noticed the confederate flag at the bottom of the cot before...
I will not waste the time required to load every damned commercial that site slams up just to go picture to picture.
Say, how did they do that?
Look at this later.. neat.
Egypt hasn’t change much.
Fascinating.
Miss America 1924 was having a bad hair day, I think.
While you can do this by varying translucency and painting in Photoshop layers, there are a couple of stand-alone programs that make this kind of a job much easier. They are “Black Magic” by Neuraltek (see http://www.blackmagic-color.com/). Three editions are available, with prices ranging from $49 to $199. Or there’s “Recolored” by Bertheussen IT of Norway (see http://www.recolored.com/) This one is priced at from $29 for personal use to $49 for businesses. Both offer free trials of downloaded copies of each program.
I’ve downloaded and used both, and slightly prefer Recolored.
Outstanding. So much more clarity in color
Well, I for one would appreciate many more. Really dig this genre! Please ping me when you post more in the future.
I could do without the kennedy one.
The color brings to life the old photos.
Note the muslim one with the pyramids. Nothing has changed much for these people. Still stuck in the past.
Noticed that too.
I love the ice delivery one.
I’m old enough to remember the iceman coming.
.
Miss America and the Airmen were my faves.
Miss America looks even more starved than some of the weight obsessed waifs of today. Goodness.
Kennedy looks sick.
LOL, same thing I thought. Looks like the picture was taken yesterday.
This took about an hour from downloading the program to completion.
Thanks!
Leni
