Sarah Palin Calls for a “Convention of the States” to Stop Obama
Capitalism Institute ^ | 4-22-14

Sarah Palin renewed her call for a “Convention of the States” today.

She has joined conservatives like George Will and Mark Levin in supporting a constitutional, Article V “Convention of the States” in order to propose specific amendments designed to rein in and limit the federal government running wild under President Obama.

More and more people, legislators and states continue to join the growing movement calling for a “Convention of the States”.

....”Obama would just ignore it. So would Holder”....

Well there really isn’t enough time before he’s gone anyway. However calling one would certainly make certain this doesn’t happen again....so they made need to do so anyway.

I’m for it, but can you imagine state reps agreeing? Look what it took just to write the Constitution! Not to mention today’s leaders are too set on their own political future and not even close to what the Founders minds and hearts were.

....”Once a “convention of states” is opened, everything will end up on the table”....

Couldn’t they limit this to a task at hand so that what we’ve seen this administration do cannot happen again?

It would be a tall order but obvious there is no mechanism in place ...’that effectively works soon enough’... to stop this in it’s tracks should we see this behavior in the future.

Seems to me they could limit the debate to specifics which would work in a timely fashion....something has to be done that will prevent this from happening in the future.

Thank you for referencing that article kingattax. Please bear in mind that the following critique is directed at Sarah Palin and not at you.

The 2014 elections are very likely going to take place before a convention of the states happens imo. So why isn't Palin also mentioning another constitutional option that patriots should also be planning for in addition to a Con-Con? Please consider the following.

If patriots and former Obama supporters can get organized to elect 2/3 conservative control of both Houses of Congress in the 2014 elections, then Congress will be positioned as follows. Congress will have the power, under the Constitution's Clause 2 of Section 7 of Article I, to override presidential vetoes. In other words, Congress will be able to repeal consitutionally indefensible Obamacare Democratcare, without Obama's signature.

In fact, note that Congress has overridden presidential vetoes as recently as Bushes 41 and 43, and also with Clinton.

.....”The States collectively formed the Federal Government and the States can dissolve the Federal Government collectively”.....

With the Government as mammoth as it is there would be utter chaos....not only across our country entire, and in every area of commerce, education, medical, industrial, militarily, and nothing would be exempt....but Internationally as well. So how could that be done without a complete fall of this nation?

"Goodbye 2nd amendment. Goodbye 10th amendment. Goodbye federalism in general."

Apparently you don't know how this works.

It takes 34 state legislatures to PROPOSE an Amendment. It takes 38 state legislatures to ratify.

Can you name even 1/2 of those legislatures (19) that would approve such change?

I was born later and know it wasn’t ‘just like Leave it to Beaver”. but it was far better from what I can tell than anything since. Even my beloved 80s.

But mainly I would love the ‘new 50s’ just to watch liberals suffer.

we are waving goodbye to those amendments, liberty, freedom and a whole host of other things now.

The states need to regain control and this is the mechanism provided by the founders.

Way to go Sarah!

We the People are taking our Sacred Republic back. We'll start with the Article V process. Then on to November 4, 2014.

Research links on the Article V process and the Liberty Amendments:

The Federal Government is broken. We owe it to The Founders and ourselves to attempt a rational Article V amendment process. It will take awhile, but if done correctly and carefully, just might help save our Republic. We have Just Begun to Fight!

Is she out of her mind? Right now it is the Consitution that prevents a complete progressive remake of America into a European socialist state

Please stop embarrassing yourself with your ignorance. In no way can it ever be a run away convention.

You are disgusting calling Sarah out of her mind.

Why don't you educate yourself and research this issue.

The bottom line it can only be a Convention to propose amendments.

And if you think you will get 34 states to repeal the 2nd Amendment then you are indeed out of your mind.

Lord knows I like Sarah, but I happen to disagree with her a bit on this. Keep in mind that most repressive measures such as gun control, taxes, and other restrictions on our freedoms originate not at the Federal level, but at the state level. I’m not seeing how an article V convention that would in effect devolve power from the Federal to the state level would fix that.

Do we really think that giving more power to the states governments of VT, IL, NY, NJ and even TX is going to result in a freer populace?

I read the AZ House and various Senate committees handily passed the application.

What is the chance he got a phone call that reminded him of his fine family and how it would be a shame if something happened? Nah. State legislatures are typically part time gigs, a lucrative no-show job probably awaits him.

The rats and rinos cannot let this movement take off, and get into popular discourse across the internet, tv, radio.

A constitutional convention forming a new government is the only way we can get out from under the burden of debt on this country.

The liberties and limitations enumerated in the constitution guarantee/prevent nothing. The structure it originally set up, its separation of powers is what secured our liberty, not parchment barriers. James Madison wrote extensively of this.

The NRA and other groups that can make life difficult for anti-2A politicians is why we have gun rights, not the words of the 2A.

Federalism and the 10th were repealed with the 17th.

States will not send schlubs off the street to a convention. They will limit the agency of their delegates to a convention to propose amendments. FL House bill HB609 is an example, and is available to read online.

See Federalist #40 regarding the federal convention of 1787. The Bircher and Publius Hoolah Moolah websites are BS.

If you think the government uses the written constitution, you are mistaken. Their governing document is a thoroughly rewritten Frankenstein Constitution in which all powers are rapidly collecting in the executive branch.

There’s zero chance of a two-thirds conservative Senate in 2014.

There’s zero chance of a two-thirds conservative Senate in 2014.

Since Democrats and Republicans in Congress worked together to exercise their power to override presidential vetoes as recently as Bush 43 as I mentioned in previous post, the 2/3 veto override is possible. But you can give up the fight if you want to.

As for me, I'm going to aim my sights higher with a "never give up" attitiude.
