As you look through the long list (and its a very long list indeed) of issues that Democrats inject race and the perception of racism into the argument, the uproar over Voter ID Laws is the most hilarious and telling. One very simple concept, showing one's proof of identity at the polling place, is not only a common sense way to reduce voting fraud, but is a measure roundly supported by voters of all race and ethnicity.
But to the progressive-left, this is yet another potential wedge issue to paint the Republican Party, and conservatives in particular, as racists dead set on suppressing the minority vote. In their arguments they claim this will disenfranchise millions of the most vulnerable Americans, and disproportionately harm blacks and other minorities. The first logical question that pops up is how the left derives at a number of "millions." After all, we are talking about individuals without proper identification. By this virtue there is no way to authenticate, or disprove, the claim, leaving liberals free to throw any number out in the wind. As Goebbels advised, the bigger the lie the more apt the public is to believe it, so why not shoot for the moon, and claim millions will be stopped from voting.
But whats important to consider in this argument is who these supposed individuals are. Not their race, their age or where they live, but rather what level of engagement do they have in our society. Someone who doesn't have a government issued ID of some sort hardly fits the profile of someone anxiously engaged in our democracy. This is an individual who does not hold a job, does not receive any government benefits or any legal, documented income of any sort. They are not engaged in the banking system or standard commerce. They do not own, or rent, property, they do not pay taxes, they do not drive and in most cases do not have a registered telephone number. So who exactly are these huddled masses, eagerly awaiting the November elections?
The truth of the matter is, they do not exist. And furthermore the Democrat Party is well aware they do not exist. Sure, in every election there will be handfuls of legitimate cases where individuals neglected to renew their licenses, had them lost or stolen as well as cases of elderly individuals who have gone nearly a decade without renewing their photo identification for lack of need. These are legitimate issues to be addressed and many of the states implementing such laws have taken steps to reduce the impact this has on legitimate voters.
That the Democrats are fully aware of all this adds to the insidious nature of their attack. It is further evidence of a party devoid of a soul and willing to do and say anything in order to gain competitive advantage. This has become such a staple of the progressive-left that it goes without notice to their flock that in even making the argument that there is a racial component to these laws is both racist and elitist. Liberals don't seem to mind hitting all Americans with extra little taxes, fees and expenses on cigarettes, gasoline and now grocery bags the general public but somehow the notion of paying for an ID card, a needed component for active participation in modern society, to be repressive and discriminatory.
While apparently missing the obvious insult being delivered to them by Democrats, minority voters, black Americans in particular, seem to be buying the argument. Despite that 66% of black Americans agree with voter ID laws, it is also commonly listed as a cause for distrust of the GOP among black voters. On yet another issue, the Democrat Party has been successful in brushing reason aside by playing the fears and suspicions in our ever splintering society.
Republicans often fall into the trap of trying to counter the left's claim that voter fraud is "virtually non-existent." While anyone who follows politics closely knows the absolute absurdity of this claim, it diverts attention and focus from the central message of the Democrats...that this is conservative racism in practice. We can argue this, providing case after case (after ever-living case) of Democrat skullduggery at the polls, but this is going to fall on deaf ears. Better to come right back at the left and question their motives, as they are oft to do to conservatives. If you can forgive me, the response should be in the vein of "what do you mean, YOU people?" This is to point out the patronizing attitude of the progressive elite and their true outlook on black voters, particularly in the inner city.
In recent years, the Republican Party and conservatives in general have begun to re-engage with black voters after decades of having largely ignored this constituency, particularly in the urban centers. For this, the GOP should be rightfully reproached, as their acquiescence has allowed Democrats to demagogue the political conversation in the inner cities, with dire consequences to the unfortunate residents of these neighborhoods. It has also made the new-found engagement that much harder, as conservatives first face the battle of overcoming ingrained suspicion among black Americans simply to have their ideas and proposals heard, let alone agreed on and put into practical application.
Sometimes, the best defense is a good offense. In terms of the race baiting strategy employed by the Democrats, I say we hit right back...and hard. The evidence to prosecute progressive-liberalism is almost without end. They control all aspects of civil and political life in predominately black precincts and districts, particularly the public school boards. They own it. Democrats have been successful of deflecting attention from their legacy of corruption and incompetence in the inner-cities by turning nearly every issue racial, while they are systemically emasculating the very community they claim to champion for. We should relish whenever (which seems to be nearly every day now) Democrats want to accuse Republicans of racism. We should use it as an opportunity to point out the results of 50 years of Democrat "Great Society" programs and how they have ruined millions upon millions of lives. We should scream to the heavens and prosecute the Democrat Party for utilizing race not only to keep the American people divided and suspicious of one another, but by purposely stalling the economic progress of black Americans for political gain.
As Forrest Gump might say, "racism is as racism does."
The only people being disenfranchised are American Citizens whose votes are cancelled by illegal aliens voting and voter fraud by the Democrats.
Thanks dignitasnews.
But haven’t you heard? Voter fraud is “virtually nonexistent.” Democrats tell us so.
