Really? Zingerman’s and he orders a Reuben?
One of America’s original purveyor’s of a true&original “Coney Dog” and he gets a Reuben?
What a putz!
Zingerman’s is pushing the minimum wage increase to eliminate competition.
I get a kick out of writers who keep asking the same idiotic question...”why did the president say this or that”. He says what he’s told to say. That’s why. Geez!
Right.
I’m going to pay attention to an idiot that pay 14 bucks for a sandwich.
Zingermans would go bankrupt trying to sell $14 Rubans anywhere but the liberal $hithole of Ann Arbor.
How presidential.
When the Article V convention is assembled, hopefully they will consider an “American citizen liberty act”, in which, without any penalty whatsoever, “American citizens only” can refuse any direct interface with the national government.
(This is a rough draft of the concept)
This means that they may choose for their citizenship, first and foremost, to be with their individual state, that it acts as a buffer between them and the federal government, minimizing contact or influence by the national government.
In practice it means that they do not pay taxes of any sort directly to the federal government. They do not benefit from Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, Obamacare, or other largess, *in exchange for which* they cannot be taxed or otherwise punished, including the denial of licenses, for this rejection, either from the national or state government.
Likewise they cannot be prohibited from using interstate means of public transport, from crossing national borders, from accessing federal courts, or denied any other right, natural or afforded all citizens.
Part of the act will be to list what exactly the federal government can do as a form of interface. It may request states to provide an “actual enumeration only” of those individuals, records of any state felony conviction, and outstanding felony warrants.
States will maintain the Selective Service System records for such persons, and any federal military draft may only demand proportional numbers of potential inductees, to come from equivalent measures of both federal citizens and state citizens.
(as you can tell, this is both a draft and under-defined as to its particulars, but this “divorce” from the federal government needs to integrate over 100 years of “progressive” efforts to federalize direct national control over the citizenry.)
What made it so expensive is the sandwich was grilled between the thighs of Scarlett Johansson.
I haven’t had a Reuben in years
I worked for a retail company that had Ann Arbor locations in the 1980’s.
It is a little pocket of fantastically expensive housing costs. We found you could not hire locals at anything close to the minimum wage. You had to offer substantially more than that to get most of your help to drive over from Jackson, 35 miles away. And you were scroooood if it snowed.
The Ruben costs fourteen bucks, and the help is making a “living wage” because those are the market conditions in the local area. Their rent is likely so high the whole thing is a wash.
As we have seen many times in the past, any company that obama praises will fail.
You can now put Zingerman on that list.
If the Republicans were smart (I know, fantasyland...) they would start a campaign to raise the price of a Big Mac by 25%! They should start every speech with, “Let’s apply a 25% tax to fast food!”
When the Dems start saying that the Pubs hate the poor, the Pubs just point out that raising the minimum wage would do the same thing. Just start slamming it home, no matter what, like the Dems do - “The Democrats want to raise the price of your groceries/hamburgers/whatever.” Keep up the mantra. Be relentless!
But they won’t.
It’s good to be king.
