Malaysia Flight 370: When Occam's Razor Fails
The Thanks Project ^ | 03/19/2014 | Steve Berman

Posted on 03/19/2014 8:22:36 AM PDT by lifeofgrace

Many people are asking, with all the satellite coverage, radar, data services, and technology available today, how could a Boeing 777 disappear without a trace?

Sadly, this has led to some really wacky ideas, which have managed to infiltrate otherwise sane media outlets.

The real explanation is very ordinary and pedestrian.

That is news when media outlets are judged to have once been sane.

There is no information with which to form an opinion.

Assuming there was no terrorist involvement is just as wacky as assuming they did.

If you posit a theory based on nothing you are by definition wacky.

Anyone who claims to know “the real explanation” at this point is wackier than the creative speculators.

I have a question, with all the available technology out there (witness finder tag - a $15 item that you can attach to anything and it can be located - granted, it’s via cell network), why is it no one has ever thought of putting something on board these multi-million dollar assets to assist in location after emergencies? Really, what would something that could send position data, and that no one could access/shut off while in flight, cost?

A follow up to my prior post. Is it a matter of not thinking someone could make off with an asset that big?

I know the real explanation.

When a cockpit fills with smoke, the first thing a pilot should be doing is put on his oxygen mask. First!!!! So whoever this pilot expert is, seems to have overlooked this aspect. I am certain it is part of pilot training and not mentioned. Sorry, I’m not interested in this argument as being plausible.

http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/flight-mh370-pilot-anwar-ibrahims-sodomy-trial-hours-before-take-off-1440736

Malaysia’s opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim has admitted he is related to missing MH370 pilot Zaharie Ahmad Shah.

The admission comes after reports in Malaysia suggested Shah attended Ibrahim’s sodomy trial hours before flight MH370 took off

Yes. And this blogger needs to read up on the proper use/non-use of  .

I'd start by putting the   right after the period and not against the beginning of the next sentence! The latter practice leads to a broken left margin.

Yes. Is there one on this type of aircraft, and if so, can it be turned off by flight crew? I'm asking about something that can be located in this type of situation, catastrophe, theft, etc...

Emergency Locator Transmitter (ELT) Beacons cannot be turned off and automatically transmit in the event of a crash ,, they are sensitive enough that they go off on a rough/hard landing (has happened to me). All aircraft have them. they transmit on the standard emergency frequency 121.5 which is monitored by almost all aircraft. Can they be disabled , SURE ,,, can they be used to find an aircraft? only if it’s transmitting ,, if it landed normally or is in the water .. NO. It is not a “lo-jack” substitute , the assumption is that if you crash you want to be found.

Anyone claiming the razor failed without knowing what happened to the flight doesn’t know what Occam’s Razor is.

Yes, I'm familiar with these. I used to have to monitor 121.5 and 243.0 when I was doing my job in the Air Force. We need something like this that will work in all cases, can be remotely activated, and cannot be shut off by aircrew in flight.
