Game Changer: It Will Be Shocking for the Average American: “Your Cost of Living Will Quadruple”
SHTF Plan ^ | 3/9/14 | Mac Slavo

Posted on 03/09/2014 4:46:47 PM PDT by Kartographer

It’s no secret that the U.S. government is in serious fiscal trouble. So much so that our Treasury Secretary recently noted that should the debt ceiling fail to be increased, the fall-out would be “catastrophic” and last for generations.

Given that sobering report, consider that everything in America, from food to fuel, is subsidized in one way or another. Those subsidies are being paid with ever-increasing debt. It is inevitable that at some point the world’s reserve currency, the US dollar, will be wiped out. The trigger for such an event is irrelevant. What is relevant, is how average Americans will be affected when that day comes.

I'm going to eat good food, not canned shlock.

I had home canned pork loin and Bush's beans for dinner. I'm going to call it canned shlock. (;>

You can say that about a bowl of oatmeal or a Ramen noodle cup - if someone needs food, either of those lowly items are worth more than gold or houses.

The whole frigging world is buried in debt. After the SHTF, I hope you can find some fool willing to accept your credit or debit card for real goods and services.

BTW, does the IRS accept credit cards?

For about $15 I get 20 meals that have a good shelf life, taste good and are filling. Not all that well balanced but as one meal a day its an easy choice.

I’ve been buying seeds. I know from experience that they last for years.

"Not that I want to be contrarian, however, we have just discovered thru fracking, huge reserves of oil and natural gas."

Fracking is great, but profit-wise, fracking plays don't last long. Petroleum and gas derivatives are also being exported. Another truth that we're distracted from is that of hundreds of millions of new drivers in developing countries over the years to come, more foreign manufacturing increases, more foreign trade going around us between pairs of foreign countries, the decline of the dollar reserve status, etc.

As for energy exports saving the whole economy, see impoverished, developing countries that run mainly on energy and agriculture exports without much domestic manufacturing (also see the recent U.S. propane debacle). I agree with you, though, on the excesses of big government spending (especially frivolous federal funding to locales) and don't see the world ending soon. But we're looking at much poorer times ahead, more of the middle class being laid off, etc.

"everything in America, from food to fuel, is subsidized in one way or another. Those subsidies are being paid with ever-increasing debt."

A million dollars that isn't borrowed by the government and paid into welfare is a million dollars that media and businesses don't get their share of.
This is why the Tea Party is hated by the media and opposed by many businesses.
It's a command economy. The command is: "Don't worry!"

There is a whole lot more to producing food than having seeds. Without the knowledge and practiced skills, most people that are storing seeds will starve.

Even skilled gardeners have bad years. I had no jalapeño peppers to can in 2013. That's after canning over 20 pints in 2012.
