from my reading, you should take and add the securities held outright to assets.

That would be double counting "securities held outright".

If this is done, you get in the 12-14T neighborhood.

If you show me your math, I'll show you your error.

When can you hold a security outright and it not be an asset?

You can't.

They’re on sale at the local Piggly-Wiggly, 41 cents a can. I picked up a couple of boxes, both regular and BBQ smoked. Just ate some, and they were great. Nice an slimy and melt in your mouth goodness!

Okay, to each his own, I guess. I bought some a few years ago. My husband and I are far from picky eaters, but we hated them. The cat would not even eat them!

“Any of the onion (allium) family lasts two years or so.”

Buy Egyptian Walking Onions at the link below and plant them. They reproduce themselves so plant once and that’s it. They will live through winter also. They do walk and will fill up your yard so give them a separate place of their own to stop their walking past a certain point. You can’t eat them the first year as they have to do their walking thing to make more onions and after that year there will be enough to use them without depleting them.

See Posts #79 and #99 this thread.

Post 99 has a link to a site with statements like this

If we have worldwide crisis and you can not get food anywhere the first currency of choice will be food or useful things, not gold or silver. If you want gold to keep some kind of value for one day after all is over make sure you are prepped for long, long time crisis before that

First, he's talking about a hypothetical, not a real time and place where gold had no value. Second gold had value even then, although not as much his hypothetically scarce supplies. Third, he has no idea how a crisis will be produced worldwide (e.g. to include Singapore, Switzerland, etc)

Again, my queston is when has there been a time without any demand for gold above trinket value anywhere in the world?

“Except for me. I have PERFECT preparations, and have planned for EVERY contingency.”

You are so full of it - you do make me laugh. Just for you, I just added Selco approval to my tag line - how do you like them apples, Mr. Perfect? :o)

I suggest that you reread it, he was not talking about a hypothetical, he was talking about real world did happen situation.

Ok, I reread it and there is no time or place mentioned. Does the article (link in #99) start on a different page? It seems like this page starts in the middle of a narrative.

if those totals are rolled up to the above line, the math does not work......

So either they can’t add, or.....

The very first paragraphs of the article:

I am very sorry because i have to destroy some popular opinions on some things, but i just have to do that. When i said and keep saying “no rules” i mean that. You can not have something like ideal preparations, you can only try to have it (and then hungry man down the road still might shoot you with his antique hunting rifle for a bit of flour). So again on bartering and gold and silver:

No, gold and silver was not like second money, or second value during SHTF, it was not even worth like in normal times, and in most of the cases it was dangerous to have it a lot (actually it was too dangerous to have anything in great amounts and let other people to know that) If you had for example 1000 gold coins, and let s say that one coin worth 150 USD in normal times, you could think that you are rich in shtf.

From an email:

Here is what happened on January 1st 2014:

Top Income tax bracket went from 35% to 39.6%
Top Income payroll tax went from 37.4% to 52.2%
Capital Gains tax went from 15% to 28%
Dividends tax went from 15% to 39.6%
Estate tax went from 0% to 55%

Remember this fact: if you have money, the democrats want it.

These taxes were all passed only with democrat votes, no republicans voted to do these taxes.
These taxes were all passed under the affordable care act, otherwise known as Obama care.
If you have sitting Democratic Representatives or Senators in your state who are running for election this year, here is your chance to get rid of them.
Be brave!

“I really appreciate how much time and attention you put into answering my post.”

I’ve been prepping/researching for years and want that info. to help others so they don’t have to spend all that time searching for what I already found. You see, some people have a life and I don’t now (living alone), so I prep and learn how to grow food, and write about it as part of my life. I hope I helped you and that is a good feeling for me.

This blogger (Selco) was during the Bosnia war. I think he was in the city of Serejavo (sp?) of winter olympics fame. Turned to rubble and no-man’s land.

Thanks for that info. It is obvious that anybody in Bosnia could sell their gold during the 90’s. For example, to me. As I said above, it just requires a middleman.

Oops - I thought that website was ALL by “Selco”, but I see that it is not. However, I think that Kart’s quotes were from Selco - sounds like him (broken english, etc.).

Obviously varing degrees of SHTF.

Currency being hauled in wheel barrows for a loaf of bread? Gold will probably help there.

Bodies being hauled off in wheel barrows with no food to buy, constant sniper fire as you try to gather wood to survive winter? Gold may not be of much help. Of course bribing people to get out of the area, etc. it would seem to be good. (Or they just kill you and take your gold).

I would guess that if you can survive either situation, having wealth (including gold) will help get you back on your feet.
