Once again, we begin our weekly awards show to look for viable candidates for our Jerk of the Week honors. The most obvious of choices are liberals, progressives, and others of that ilk, but we must also remain vigilant and look at those who are supposedly on our side. It's hard enough to fight your enemies when your so-called friends are actively working against you. One such entity is the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC). As conservatives flock to CPAC to give and hear speeches, an undercurrent of not standing up for conservative values has been prevalent. That is why CPAC is our Jerk of the Week.
CPAC is where grand strategies are mapped out and conservatives can brainstorm on how to promote conservative principles, or at least that's what it used to be. In recent years, it has taken a very progressive turn to where many conservatives can no longer see eye-to-eye with what's going on. CPAC won't even discuss the ramifications of Islamic terrorism. There isn't even one panel devoted to that topic this year, and in years past, CPAC has actively kept those who speak out against Islamic terrorism away from the official conference. That is why Andrew Breitbart started an "Uninvited" panel for those people to have a voice. There are two members that sit on the board of the American Conservative Union (ACU) that have ties with terrorist-friendly groups, such as the Muslim Brotherhood. These two men are Suhail Khan and Grover Norquist. For those who do not know, the ACU is the group that puts on CPAC.
On another front, CPAC has actively been encouraging illegal immigration. In a time where the economy is the central focus in all of our lives, we all know that illegal immigration has a tremendous impact upon our economy. Jobs are taken away from citizens and given to illegals, and illegals immediately begin to tap into our aid programs. Some argue that illegals come here to work, but many counter that many come here to sponge off the state. In fact, the number of minors that are crossing the border are rising as their parents are sending them to the US as more establishment politicians push for amnesty for illegal immigrant minors.
You would think that CPAC would have several panels devoted to this topic, especially as that the amnesty is extremely unpopular with the American people. However, there is a grand total of one panel devoted to this topic. Even worse, the panel is rigged for pushing for amnesty of illegal immigrants. Out of five panelists, four of them are for immigration reform, and that number includes the moderator of the panel! It's so bad that Representative Lamar Smith has issued a press release blasting CPAC for their pro-illegal immigration bias.
Perhaps its time for conservatives to drop the dog and pony show that is CPAC. Have they been effective in the last decade? It appears that the central body of CPAC is willing to sell out their conservative principles in order to retain a seat at the establishment table. Even when Republicans lose, they can still write papers, go to cocktail parties, and set themselves up as advisors to the next campaign that comes along. CPAC has gone the way of the establishment Republicans, and that's why they're our Jerk of the Week.
My vote goes to obama for jerk of the week
The guy’s got a point about our ol’ buddy Nover Grorquist. He deserves at least honorable mention.
Obama is a symptom. Obama isn't the cause of this malaise, and getting rid of Obama won't solve this malaise.
A major contributor to the CAUSE of this malaise is a Republican party that has made functional statist Democrats of Republican voters. When I voted for McCain, for Arnold, and for Meg Whitman, I may have been "Republican" in intention, but in practice, I was a functional Democrat. Everyone here who voted for Romney may have been Republican in intention, but had Romney won, those who voted for him would have reaped the FUNCTIONAL CONSEQUENCES of voting Democrat.
I think rightwingerpatriot is saying that CPAC is continuing that trend of monopolizing the "Republican" label while functionally advancing Democrat policies. That gets my vote for "jerk of the decade."
CPAC, Now .....The ILLINOIS TEA PARTY, have sold their souls to the devil. Il Tea party was bought out and paid off by Gov candidate Bruce Rauner.
Even Conservative organizations are traitors, cannot truct them!
Have been for quite a while. Another group of fools.
I agree.
I’ll crawl thru broken glass to vote for Bruce Rauner
Every political movement is eventually taken over by leaders who have their own interests. The Tea Party is no different. They were very effective when they were grassroots and ticked off about government growth and spending. I said it then and I said it now - they would be weakened as more and more spokesmen emerged and they fractured over smaller issues.
The sentiment still exists and enough people self-identify as Tea Party folks to still have power, but the brand will lose steam for the same reason the GOP is such a mess. We don’t all agree on everything after all.
Yeah? But it would be a hell of a good place to start.
Bingo. The same Republican "consultants" that tell us to abandon social conservatives are the ones that gave us John McCain and who ran Romney's campaign.
If they had any decency, they'd give their conslting fees back. But instead, they just lose more elections.
A SMART place to start is within the Republican party, culling functional Democrats who register as Republicans.
That is the ONLY way to begin solving this malaise. STOP confusing symptoms for causes, Bullish.
Old Grover, (muslim brotherhood operative AND a heavy hitter for the islamic terrorist front group, C.A.I.R), Norquist can’t be all that bad......The National Rifle Association has had him seated as one of their board members for years!!
Rauner may be running as a Republican, however he's anything but!!
Sadly, everyone running for Governor here in Illinois is either a corrupt career politician, someone faking being a Republican or BOTH!!
I'm staying home, I refuse to participate in this corrupt system in Illinois. I will not allow my vote to legitimize this corrupt, duplicitous political system here. No More.

Excellent post.
The Heritage Foundation has the same problem, and it has had that problem since the Clinton era.
Some of the problem, is the Bush [-bot, -RINO] Dynasty, which shills for high-rolling mid-Eastern magnates who spread money around as a magic carpet for Islam Jihad Lite.
PS. Conservative states are BLUE (for Reagan), not red (for communism).
I miss Cedra Crenshaw.
The problem is that Republican means functional Democrat; with respect to Republicans:
