HOW THE GOP LOST MIDDLE AMERICA How the GOP lost Middle America By: Patrick J. Buchanan 1/31/2014
Out of the Republican retreat on Marylands Eastern shore comes word that the House leadership is raising the white flag of surrender on immigration.
The GOP will agree to halt the deportation of 12 million illegal aliens, and sign on to a blanket amnesty. It only asks that the 12 million not be put on a path to citizenship.
Sorry, but losers do not dictate terms. Rich Trumka of the AFL-CIO says amnesty is no longer enough. Illegal aliens must be put on a path to citizenship and given green cards to work and join unions.
Rep. Paul Ryan and the Wall Street Journal are for throwing in the towel. Legalize them all and start them on the path to citizenship.
A full and final capitulation. Lets get it over with.
To understand why and how the Republican Party lost Middle America, and faces demographic death, we need to go back to Bush I.
At the Cold Wars end, the GOP reached a fork in the road. The determination of Middle Americans to preserve the country they grew up in, suddenly collided with the profit motive of Corporate America.
The Fortune 500 wanted to close factories in the USA and ship production abroad where unions did not exist, regulations were light, taxes were low, and wages were a fraction of what they were here in America.
Corporate America was going global and wanted to be rid of its American work force, the best paid on earth, and replace it with cheap foreign labor.

Instead of deporting them back to Mexico, lets send them to Russia as a present to Putin.
The truth was that it was the American IT worker who became expensive and unskilled, even if only temporarily.
Many companies going into the 1990's had cut back on internal workforce training as a cost-cutting measure just as the technology was rapidly making a generational change. Those same companies then used this situation to claim that they needed the new-skilled workers immediately and couldn't wait for the American worker to retrain. That led to the rapid growth in the H1-B workers.
The H1-B program was supposed to be for jobs looking for workers, but once here the people became workers looking for jobs, and willing to takelower wages.
tThat's how we got to where we are today.

One word: cowardice......
The GOP have become afraid of speaking the truth for fear of being called racist/bigot blah, blah.....
Democrats only want the voters. Some Republicans wanted cheap labor.
Not enough free stuff
So Perot was right?
It's been both parties all along. Back when Reagan signed the first amnesty, the Attorney General began to enforce the employer ID provisions seriously. A group of Republican congressmen wrote a letter to him complaining that the enforcement was hurting business and threatening to cut the DOJ budget. After that there was never any serious effort enforcing those provisions. Pretending Pubs aren't a part of the problem is the revisionist history.
2. A Democrat, Bill Clinton signed NAFA.
Most of the votes in Congress came from Pubs. Almost all the votes against were Democrats.
more Republicans voted for the Civil Rights Act too.
That’s not exactly a measure of who wanted it the most.
You spoke all the right words to the GOPe. Clearly. Concisely. - You know what they heard? . . . .
“Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, GOPe, blah, blah . . . blah . . . blah . . . blah . .”
Damn ‘sucking sound’ Ross was right
Don’t forget the constant bullying by the lib media.
Now they are going to pick up seats due to Obama being a disaster, but they will think it is because they are such a great success and not because they are simply the lesser of two evils.
We need conservatives to speak and act win or lose.
