The Obama administration is working around the clock to come up with ways to punish Vladimir Putin for invading Ukraine. But will any of them work?
Behind the scenes, Obama administration officials are preparing a series of possible battle plans for a potential economic assault on Russia in response to its invasion of Ukraine, an administration source close to the issue told The Daily Beast. Among the possible targets for these financial attacks: everyone from high-ranking Russian military officials to government leaders to top businessmen to Russian-speaking separatists in Ukraine. Its all part of the work to prepare an executive order now under consideration at the Obama administrations highest levels.

To announce this effort which is sure to fail is no less than folly.
Europe gets too much of it's energy from Russia and Russia buys too much of their stuff for them to consider serious, biting sanctions.
It's still a bit nippy across much of Europe and loss of 1/2 their energy would hurt.
Ping.
Where’s Charlie Wilson and Gust Avrakotos when you really need them?
Oh, yeah. Obama has already dismantled the CIA and turned the NSA and remaining intelligence agencies from foreign espionage and intelligence to domesitic espionage and intelligence against our own citizens.
Elections have consequences worldwide.
Highest levels ... LMAO!
there’s only one thing Obama is qualified to squeeze
The USA will have to step up and provide all the energy needs necessary to Europe in order to offset any cuts Russia will make as punishment for the EU not giving in to them. We are the top energy producer in the world now. It can be done. Let the Reds eat their oil and gas.
I am certain Putin is quaking in his shoes right now!
I weep for the Nation we once were..
and I fear what we have facing us...
this president is not a leader, he is lost in the woods..
PRAY FOR AMERICA
WAKE UP VOTERS...TURN THAT SENATE IN 2014
I suppose our having a huge exportable energy surplus would have strengthened our bargaining position.
It's a pity Keystone never got approved, eh?
I agree, he is gonna get a lot of people hurt.
OK, let me see if I get this.
Russia invades a foreign country to “saveguard” its (only) warm water port on the Black Sea, and takes over with real missiles, tanks, soldiers and planes around its own ships and dockyards, right?
Obama is going to propose economic “??????” against senior Russian officials, who don’t work in the west and who work FOR Russia, right?
And Obama is going to propose enforcing these “sanctions” against Russian senior officials by going to the EU and “demanding” action, right?
At which point Russia immediately turns off 75% of the natural gas flowing to the EU ....
And Obama is going to do .....?
That's a capability we should have been building for the last 5 years. To do what you say would SUBSTANTIALLY reduce US stocks during a cold winter here too.
Sure, in the olden days Americans would bit the bullet and step up.
But not without strong leadership.
Besides, Obama's base would never stand for it.
What the hell, Barack? I have got Ukraine all figured out.
And, I don't need you making any unscripted comments.
Do you understand me?
What ??? Send Vladimir to bed with no tuck-in, no Ovaltine, and no reading of Goodnight Moon ???
You can almost see Valerie’s forked lizard tongue in that photo.
Economic Assault on Russia, huh?
That’s EASY —frack like fracking crazy.
Will he do it? NO.
Every time this administration opens it's mouth or leaks some planning they make the situation far worse, especially for US prestige...which is nearly exhausted.
All of them just need to STFU. If they're going to do something, do it. If not, shut up and quit shaming the nation!
