"I have no clue what happened over that three hour period - what got moved when, etc."

During the first two hours (visitation) the casket is open in the front isle. During the funeral mass, the casket is closed and sits in the aisle between the pews. You can see this in both the KITV (@0:25 and 0:47) and KHON (@0:30) videos.

And if you look at this photo again:

The memoriam and the easel w/the lei are not in the shot. Only the small stand with the flowers is visible. The cameraman may have zoom passed them to get a tighter shot. Which means they are not right next to the casket as both videos make them appear. Or they may have been moved (see rest of comment below).

The thing that Butterdezillion is calling a tier is actually part of the hinge of the casket lid covered by the lining. Like this one without the lining:

Because of the low resolution image and the same color of both linings, the casket lining and the lid lining appear to come together. In the casket picture above the lid is similar to Fuddy's casket. Where Butter drew the horizontal line on the lid is too high, it should be at the base of the series of vertical folds.

Go back to the KITV video at 2:02. The lid has the same little triangular shape as the family moves in. We know the family is the Fuddy family. And you can also see the easel w/the lei has either moved almost behind the memoriam or was always there and the close up shots are distorted by the angles and the zoom. You can also just make out the flowers that sit on the small table visible in the above photo.

I drew the lines a little bit away from where the photo shows the edges, so that people could see that the image itself draws those lines. The edge of the lining can be seen, and the stairstep part is above the line made by the edge of the lining.

It’s something that makes a distinct square - not triangular - edge, and something that has enough width to it that the light reflects off of it. This isn’t a drape.

Maybe it’s a pillow. Most caskets have the head elevated at least a little. But if that’s a pillow they sure didn’t have her head on it. And if it’s a pillow that sticks above the box then it should have shown in the other images. Whatever it was, it should have shown in the other images.
