WASHINGTON (AP) President Barack Obama will issue a call for expanding economic opportunity in his State of the Union address. He'll press a divided Congress to help shrink the income gap between the rich and poor, while asserting that he will take action on his own if lawmakers don't.

Recovery Summer 5.0 will fix everything this year. Let the good times roll. /sarc
What a racist.
Buy American.
It is very simple. American.
Short version: I am the law. You will bend your knee before me or you will no longer be needed.
Let’s see. His policies have increased the gap between rich and poor, and to further his policies, he is going to act without the approval of congress. What’s not to like, if you are one of the communistic useful idiots?
Watch out when he says “If you like your income you can keep your income. Period.”
Our nation’s least productive citizens are fixing to get another set of wealth transfer payments.
Wonder how many times he’ll say “income inequality”. Should be on the SOU Bingo Drinking Game.
Under my Admin, the economy has improved, even though that evil Bush left me with a mess.
Any bets on how many times he’ll say “I”, “me”, “my”? probably wouldn’t say “uh, uh, uh” to much, unless TOTUS goes out.
Equality of opportunity does NOT guarantee equality of results.
“He’ll press a divided Congress to help shrink the income gap between the rich and poor”
One might think he intends to do that by raising up the poor. No, he will do it by taking money from the rich, no trickle down for him, we will turn it into evaporation, or try to do it.
0bama’s focus on economic opportunity and jobs since 2009 has done enough damage already. He needs to focus on helping democrats win reelection in the 2014 mid terms. In spite of Boehner and McConnel bumbling, that should insure a republican majority in both the senate and house.
If you like your economy, you can keep it.
Absolutely, equality of opportunity does not provide equality of results, never has, never will. It may be true that some in life start out with a leg up but from there, they sink or swim on their own initiative, til recently.
We have been on the averaging down path for far too long. No more honor rolls, no more keeping score, no more advancement based on test scores. No, we just move everything along like one blob. When some succeed, we tax them to death to punish their initiative and reward the losers in life. What galls me is it is getting worse and we are now so far down the path of killing achievement we have lost our sense of purpose and seem content as a nation to whine about how bad things have become yet not kill off the reasons why this has happened. No, we believe passing more laws will right the problems.
Will he be focusing on it like a laser again?
Someone needs to tell 0 bummer the reason of the income gap is that there are almost double the number of people on food stamps than ever before. His policies caused that and there is no economic opportunity left with the oppressive policies he has put in place.
Equal economic opportunity to be on the government teat...
Obama’s speeches should be laughed at by all plus the MSM, but; of course the MSM will think all is great. Private business does not hire more when Gov regulations create more overhead/expense, higher taxes and higher wages. Anti capitalism types like Obama’s czars flat run businessmen off. Obama has created the most Americans ever to be totally dependent on GOV. Unemployment was a very generous 26 weeks(1/2 year). Then it was only 5 weeks short of two full years, and; our clown in chief and his pals want more. Obama seems to have told people to burn the wood on their shovel and recycle the metal for cash, don’t smoke camels- smoke dope, don’t sit on your ass-sit in front of the TV and watch me, use your Obama phone and drink some cool ones charged to your EBT. Those racists gonna pay for your promised land.
One thing for sure, he won’t be talking about consumer spending over the recent holiday season. It was the worst since 2008, when we were in a serious recession.
(Being a conservative, you must be lonely in Seattle. I can commiserate since I live in a deep blue state. Regards.)
