Why in the world would GM announce a dividend (subsequently hurting investors who buy on the news) hours before giving negative guidance?

It maybe simpler than this... The North America International Auto Show is on in Detroit, Biden is their and they have to make big news. IMHO they also suffer from a bit of "Ford Envy" at the moment and have to do a "me too" just like Ford brought the divi back.

We in realville know about the VEBA and what a land mine it is for GM along with their unsold properties worth something like 2 billion if they could get it for the land...

I don’t know that I would go against GM stock this year. To many fat fingers are out to make it a big deal, about 5 to 7 stock a year get this blessing. We can call it a favor, or what it is, a promo for the big banks and hedge funds (to validate their supreme wisdom with their adoring client base of course).
