NOW IN CONTEXT
They made a martyr of himI would not like to say a saviour, although he is our benefactor.
He is the man through whom God has spoken and revealed some of the most glorious principles that ever were revealed to the children of men; yet I would not like to call him a saviour, though in a certain capacity he was a God to us, and is to the nations of the earth, and will continue to be.
He was not the Only Begotten of the Father, who died for the sins of the world; but he was the Prophet of the Lord, through whom God spoke to the nations and dictated laws by which they were to be governed to secure to themselves eternal life.
” dictated laws by which they were to be governed to secure to themselves eternal life. “
Why does that sound like he is a Savior? Without those laws, there is no eternal life.
