KEYWORDS: dic; obama; rome; taxes
History repeating itself in the guise of the dictatorial, decadent, misguided style, character that was the Roman Empire, but not quite in the exact same way. While the fall of Pax Romana was an inevitable outcome of hegemonic fatigue, the fall of Pax Americana is being done deliberately. And as underscored as well, while Rome, embraced, expanded, brought glory to Christianity, today the DIC is demonstrably seeking to destroy, annihilate it.

Alaric was able to capture Rome in 410 because the emperor Honorius spent most of his time playing golf. I think that’s what Gibbon says.

Raising taxes is bad policy, but has little to do with the fall of the Roman Empire.
The Empire fell to the Ottomans in 1453 after a period of long decline after the defeat at Manzikert, and the crippling loss of most of Asia Minor 400 years before.
