On December 19th, a sheriff’s deputy was shot and killed during an attempt to serve a “no knock” warrant near Sommerville, Texas. Just before 6:00 A.M. an 8 member SWAT team broke through the door of Henry Goedrich Magee to serve a warrant which would permit the team to search the mobile home in which Magee and his pregnant girlfriend were living. Reacting to the pre-dawn, forced entry Magee grabbed a rifle propped against a bedroom door frame and fired at the unidentified intruders, killing 31 year old sheriff’s deputy Adam Sowders. No one else was injured and Magee was taken into custody. He is being held on $1 million bail and has been charged with capital murder, punishable in Texas by life in prison without possibility of parole or death by lethal injection.
These are the broad facts of the case as first reported by a number of print, radio and TV sources. The following additional information has been made public during the past few days:

DeGuerin will get this prosecution dropped by the end of January.
Will then sue the county. The only victim in this case is the shooter. Sorry for his family, but he did it to himself.
AND THEY HAVE A SWAT TEAM? Holy crap.
Must be tough for them to scrape money together just for a stoplight!
It was the sheriff’s office that did the raid. The population of the county is much larger.
I would bet a phone call would have gotten the guy to surrender on his own. Would have probably told the deputy he’d meet him at the courthouse or jail.
Makes me think he fellow officers knew he was a gung-ho dipstick and let him bust in (since they couldn't talk him down) without close back-up.
They'll never convict the pothead shooter. Hope to goodness they don't.

A reasonable response would be to remove all weapons from private citizens' hands </sarc>
How's the saying go? Judged by 12 rather than Carried by 6?
Why did they even need the ‘no knock warrant’ (circumlocution for a raid)? Why wouldn’t a regular warrant have worked?
How to serve a warrant properly:
1) Knock.
2) Wait for the person to answer.
3) Identify yourself.
4) Permit the accused to verify your identity (some of the non-government employed criminals are not above pretending to be officers)
5) Serve the warrant.
Police officers need to consider that it was *this* scenario (government employees storming into citizen’s houses) against which the Founding Fathers rebelled.

i am not just going to sit by when my home is invaded by thugs or thugs with badges, neither of whom identify themselves.
there are plenty of cases of crooks dressing up as cops doing home invasions.
read freedom from war, state dept pub. 7277. this is what swat is all about.
if they can organize a no-knock, they could block his sewer line.
evey time. hopefully one time none are left standing.
won’t matter, you aim for neck or crotch, great bleedouts and crotch stops them moving towards you.
this is where you start shooting thru the walls around the front door.
half the time it’s not even the correct address/place.
you need two more slugs. tube extender.
