It didn't take long for A&E to cry uncle, and reverse its suspension of 'Duck Dynasty' star Phil Robertson. And their announcement came on Friday night, the traditional time to lessen the public impact -- and before New Year's, perhaps slowest news cycle all year.
All the same, the reversal may mark a significant turning point in the culture wars, against radical activists who have been able to bully their way into our living rooms, workplaces and schools over the past 25 years.
A&E announced that Phil Robertson will return to the show in 2014. Their statement:
As a global media content company, A+E Networks core values are centered around creativity, inclusion and mutual respect. We believe it is a privilege for our brands to be invited into peoples home and we operate with a strong sense of integrity and deep commitment to these principals.GLAAD, the homosexual pressure group, suffered a rare, stinging defeat. Their brief statement showed their displeasure, but also exposes their weakness, as they put "African-Americans" first in a rather pathetic attempt to deny the isolation they have brought on themselves with their anti-Christian bullying. Read on...That is why we reacted so quickly and strongly to a recent interview with Phil Robertson. While Phils comments made in the interview reflect his personal views based on his own beliefs, and his own personal journey, he and his family have publicly stated they regret the coarse language he used and the mis-interpretation of his core beliefs based only on the article. He also made it clear he would never incite or encourage hate. We at A+E Networks expressed our disappointment with his statements in the article, and reiterate that they are not views we hold.
But Duck Dynasty is not a show about one man's views. It resonates with a large audience because it is a show about family a family that America has come to love. As you might have seen in many episodes, they come together to reflect and pray for unity, tolerance and forgiveness. These are three values that we at A+E Networks also feel strongly about.
So after discussions with the Robertson family, as well as consulting with numerous advocacy groups, A&E has decided to resume filming Duck Dynasty later this spring with the entire Robertson family.
We will also use this moment to launch a national public service campaign (PSA) promoting unity, tolerance and acceptance among all people, a message that supports our core values as a company, and the values found in Duck Dynasty. These PSAs will air across our entire portfolio.
Phil Robertson should look African American and gay people in the eyes and hear about the hurtful impact of praising Jim Crow laws and comparing gay people to terrorists. If dialogue with Phil is not part of next steps then A+E has chosen profits over African American and gay people especially its employees and viewers. This sure doesn't sound like the same GLAAD that has swaggered its way through Hollywood halls for 2 decades, intimidating producers into caving on their every demand to increase homosexual characters and censor Christian content.
One gay man said it was like a hard wet snapping towel in the men shower.
...........................................................
I would bet he loves that.
Sure he has experienced it, probably did the snapping a few times in a gay bathhouse.
LOL.
Maybe now people will think before jumping on the queer bandwagon.
Now, if A&E would take the same kind of “not here, not now” stance with Jezzie Jaxon, maybe, MAYBE, the harassment will begin to ebb.
Just a little.
Don’t expect a “come to Jesus” moment for A&E, though.
Be it as it may, I still don’t watch A&E. I was flipping channels the other night, Duck Dynasty was on the A&E channel, I continued flipping. Friday The first 48 was on A&E. Before they suspended Phil, I watched The First 48 religiously. Now I go to another channel. I have no desire to watch A& E, now or in the forseeable future.
Just the point they will not stop. We won this fight but they will be back.
The whole premise of doing Duck Dynasty in the first place was to make a mockery of people like Robertson and his "ilk". A&E had hoped to make money on a show that would mock Christian values and instead they made a fortune promoting the values they originally intended to mock.
This whole GQ interview was a setup by A&E to try to keep the show, but change the direction away from the values of its patriarch.
Now A&E has opened up a new can of worms. The queer lobby has gone a bridge too far and people are not only fed up, but taking public stands against the tyranny of political correctness.
Phil Robertson 2016!
Most assuredly so.
Eric Clapton
The Robertson's should tare up the contract with AE as soon as it is time to renew..Go to another network..I would not want to be associated with the liars and I hope they don't either..As for me I will just pass A&E up and not watch anything on there again except DD..
What is this “comparing gay people to terrorists...?”
Blacks don’t like being lumped in with the queers when issues of civil rights are discussed. Sex isn’t a civil right.
Huh?
“This is not a stinging defeat. What is the current position but the same place that Phil was in before he was suspended? What was gained? Nothing, only a couple of weeks was lost. A&E is still as condemning of Phils statements, as is GLAAD, and they will likely try to make a mockery of him going forward.”
They were taking too much heat. This is a way to get it out of the light and let people forget about it while making them believe a great victory was won, It’s just another way of controlling the herd. Edward Bernays (he should have been strangled at birth) would be proud.
Wonder how this affects Jesse’s “demands” to meet w A&E?
I’m guessing he shuts up....
...well....ok....hoping....
Re; your #15;
Please . . . . . Gilda was so much more of a class act than Nancy Dubuc has ever dreamed of being.
Significant turning point in the culture wars, against radical activists who have been able to bully their way into our living rooms.
Like the sound of that about time PC dies.
A&E upholds values to encourage hatred towards Christians who don't tow the line on the pro-sodomy front.
No, butt rangers. The truth has finally emerged. If "dialogue" with Phil IS part of next steps, then A&E has chosen cowardice over principle, and political correctness over profits. Viewers of "Duck Dynasty" do NOT support homosexuals, and the vast majority of A&E employees are heterosexuals, as is the vast majority of Americans.
Your bullying days are over.
