Do you ever ask any of them if they would ever be inclined to vote for a Democrat again?
I’m curious ; how many are undergoing the kind of ‘enlightenment’ about the Democrat Party I did , years ago ?

” Our neighbor here in Seattle , voted for Obama and is now opposed to him. BUT his wife, brother and sister are Republicans; the pressure now is overwhelming. I have a sister-in-law and a couple brother-in-laws who were big supporters but since she’s partnered-up with a right-wing guy she has turned silent, the bros are still ardent. [Obama supporters]

Went to a big Thanksgiving dinner with mainly right-wingers but a few lefties in attendance who were still vehement Obama supporters: “All this is caused by the Republicans; they created the mess and now they oppose and block anything and everything Obama wants to do to fix it!”

When you consider how a community organizer works you can see how he can keep his base: find schisms and drive a wedge. Sort out all the non-mainstream individuals and weld them into a solid block – it’s fairly easy compared to welding a front from the majority, which is what one would have to do to be successful against an enemy like Stalin or Hitler, an alien from outer-space, or worldwide starvation. In our current case the President’s enemy is the mainstream majority. His job as he saw it through the eyes of an organizer was to separate those usually on the fringe or outside: Gays, Lesbians, Blacks, Latinos, the Poor, [ white Rasta wannabe hippies] Single Women, Muslims, Jews, Socialists and Communists, and bind them together with promises of entitlement and power. Do this and you’ve got a “majority group.”

A majority, in order to wield power, does not mean a strait majority of numbers, but the largest of “groups”: larger than any other group. There have been a number of sociological studies that have explored this phenom. They explain how a relatively small group, stronger in commitment than any competing group, gains enough power to rule: the tail wags the dog. This is the condition Western Europe now finds itself in. Another example is that of nearly every American major metropolitan area: eventually “white flight” leaves those major metropolises in control of those left and in control of the country. The result is that have the power to elect the Senate and the Presidency. The Courts soon follow. I’ll coin a word – ‘The Flighters’ leave the cities and move to the ‘burbs and the countryside, just as I did. In doing so they lose their voice.

It will require a grim situation to reverse it all on the scale of: economic collapse, World War, worldwide crop failure, worldwide epidemic, etc. “

Well, do I have some great news for you! China, Japan and S. Korea all claiming the Senkaku islands, N. Korea at the brink of collapse (and not promising to go quietly), Ukraine heating up, Syria never really cooled off, QE to infinity here, Obamacare poised to act as an economic neutron bomb ... Stay tuned!

RE: “White flight” leaves those major metropolises in control of those left and in control of the country.

Sadly, in Portland and Seattle, Hard Left non-Hispanic whites are firmly in control.

Portland - 72% white - 8% Asian

Seattle - 66% white - 14% Asian

Asians in both cities are largely middle or upper middle class, and they vote about 75% Democrat.

In 2008, Seattle voted Obama 70% to McCain 28%!

Portland elected and retained a gay mayor who had a sexual relationship with a minor.

Compare that to Joe Paterno, a life long Republican, whose reputation was systematically destroyed because he failed to report hearsay evidence to the Police about a former coach having sex with a minor.

In 2013, Seattle elected its first openly gay mayor, who is “sympathetic” to the $15 minimum wage, and also elected its first publicly declared Socialist city council member.

I've lived in Portland and Seattle for 20 years.

Strangely, I've come to believe that “White Socialism” works reasonable well at the local level.

Our local finances are in reasonably good shape compared to most large cities.

However, “White Socialism” has incredibly destructive consequences at the national level, namely, Obama, four Dem senators, and majority Democrat delegations for the House of Representatives.

But, locally, our quality of life is quite good.

Here in Seattle, there is almost no racial tension between whites, Asians, and our small community of Hispanics.

In terms of safety, if you avoid Black neighborhoods and neighborhoods around drinking establishments, I feel quite safe, even at night.

I got some bad news for you....

If the Sun doesn't make a good crop of sunspots by 2016....then we in for another mini ice age.....at best lasting 400 years (like the last one from 1350 to 1750)

Good luck surviving that with no electricity and GE modified seeds.

“local finances are in reasonable shape”

LOL. Do you actually believe that?????

Portland AND Seattle receive such a HUGE apportionment of Federal dollars for ALL liberal pet projects that they would both be is dire straits without it.

Better (my word), they will both suffer terminally in a major disaster from social unrest.

Frankly, you & a friend of mine have been living there too long. I escaped; I kept my biased views on liberalism.

He is a master at dividing groups and driving a wedge between them, no matter which side they are on. He wants total civil unrest and will do what he can to achieve it. When (no longer IF) the people rise up against him and his band of crooks, Marshall Law will be implemented and we will have a dictator for life, not just for a few years.

The point I was trying to make was that “white Socialist” cities are distinctly different than Detroit, Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles.

We do not have economic chaos, and we do not have high levels of violence.

There are huge transfers of federal cash to all American cities, and all would suffer if that spigot was turned off.

Fact is, most major European cities, all of them socialist, remind me of Portland and Seattle.

But, I remain a devout Conservative, which is why I hang out every day at Free Republic.
