Here's a short video of out 1st major snow iof the season.
1st Major Valley Snow in SW Idaho, 2013
We've had a couple of dustings and a couple less than an inch, but last night we got 3-4 inches. It warmed up to 18 this morning, but we will be blow zero tonight.
Stay warm out there!
I would not domesticate one. They are programmed to survive in the wild and anything that changes their behavior puts them at risk.
I enjoy watching them, but we also have to string our chicken run/orchard so they will leave the chicks alone. It’s been very effective and hopefully when the fruit trees are large enough we won’t have to do it anymore.
My hawk also drops snakes... maybe he has a claw problem. I have a small lake right by the house and I find dead water moccasins in perfect condition except a few inches where they got grabbed and swooped up.
Any bird that kills moccasins are welcome in my world! Sounds like he has a talon or foot problem. Our hawks hit a branch and stick like glue and the only thing we have seen drop (my wife/kids saw it) was the neighbors cat getting dropped by an eagle.
Got a little over 4” here in Meridian. The way I figured it I moved about 400 cubic foot off my driveway this morning. Being my first snow since moving here from California I am ready for summer.
Was that Lewis and Clark passing by in the silver car?
Uhh. It didn’t snow after 1-1-2013 until now?
Thanks for the video Jeff. Season’s Greetings to you and your family from an-also-very-cold Salmon Creek, Washington - in the heart of the future Cascade Free Zone.
We got the same snow here in So.Oregon. Snowed all day Friday and most of the night. It’s nearly six inches of dry fluffy snow.
Good timing as the young’uns and I just received cross-country skis from the UPS guy on Wednesday.
Forecast says -15°F here tonight. Will have to dribble the faucets for sure.
It’d be boring if we all liked the same things! :-)
Kewel
Wind chill to 16 below up here yesterday. Crikey! It’s a little calmer this morning and above zero, at least. Stay warm, Jeff!
A balmy 49 in SE NC right now. The high for today was at 2AM this morning @ 72 degrees!
You've got a ways to go. Keep the shovel and snow melt handy!
That’s what I was thinking, he has club-talon, with his demonstrated inability to land and dropping prey.
This is what he looks like. He 'nests' about 100 feet from my window.
Red-tail hawk. We have a resident pair and they are fun to watch below the house on our hill.
Global warming.
Like people, hawks do better with coffee.
