Oregonians have the freedoms of speech, the press and to carry concealed handguns. Their governor has the right to schedule or not schedule press conferences and interviews. And voters have the right to hold elected officials accountable for failed state Obamacare exchanges and their treatment of the press.
But does dispatching a state police bodyguard to prevent a citizen journalist from traversing a public street in this way go too far?

That is outrageous.
The Governor knows this citizen reporter. He didn’t want to be bothered by tough questions. Lamestream butt-kissers only.
“The law is “me telling you” ~ Officer Kyle Wilson
Detective Kyle Wilson, Badge #24902
Office telephone mumber (public domain, not confidential!)
(503) 934-0355
I’m not able to validate an email address at this time.
It is to be noted that this Detective put himself in harm’s way at the Clackamas Mall shooting last year and that may well be the source of his concern about a firearm. It’s not an excuse, mind you, but a possible explanation.
Hurray for law enforcement.
Thanks for the info. I suspect he’s been getting some calls asking him to explain his actions.
We haven’t seen the badge polishers show up here yet.
They’re busy defending the idiot who opened fire on a minivan full of kids.
Maybe we need a ping list for them, so we can summon them? SUggested name....
“Theyre busy defending the idiot who opened fire on a minivan full of kids.”
Do not forget to mention the repeated fleeing of the scene of a legitimate traffic stop, the attack on one of the officers, and the very likely fact that the officer who shot did not know there were children in the van and was shooting at the tires....
Facts are facts.
Yes, it is outrageous. Politicians know that public questioning is a part of the job. If they are not willing to at least say “No Comment”, they should not be in office.
Yes, that’s pert near a strawman argument.
I like how you veer from “very likely fact” to fact.
I dont defend the dipshit driver. Do you defend the dipshit shooter?
I think the driver is far more at fault than the shooter, but the shooter should be reprimanded and given additional training.
Either he was aiming at the tires (I understand one was flattened by the three shots) or he is a really bad shot.
Either way, he needs training. Shooting at tires is an obsolete technique that stopped being taught 20 to 30 years ago.
I would like to expect the same result for any citizen, but I realize that we are unlikely to get it.
While I cannot prove that he did not know that there were young children in the back of the van, I think it extremely likely that the assumption is correct.
