I've decided I've had enough of commenting from the sidelines and am going to be running for City Council in Rio Rancho, NM. I know we have many members who have gone through this and I would appreciate any comments and/or suggestions.

Sorry if this post breaks any of the protocols of FreeRepublic, but I really want some input from fellow conservatives. Prayers too!

I’ll start with prayers.

I can’t speak from experience but will offer you my hopes and wishes from Indiana. Good luck and God Bless.

Thank you in advance for your efforts.

Make sure your family is on board and ready (small town or not).

Hold out for the good leads. Also, coffee is for closers.

Prepare your family for the nasty side of politics if you start to get traction. There are a lot of kooks out there.

So you know our fair town!

For the rest of you, Rio Rancho is a town founded on land fraud. The initial developer was selling desert lots to “investors” and blowing smoke about retiring to beautiful Rio Rancho. There was no infrastructure - no roads, water, electricity, nada. Just parceled out dirt. They were convicted on charges of fraud and forced to fulfill their promises.

The movie and play, Glengarry Glen Ross, is about desperate salesmen struggling to keep their jobs while selling dubious lots in...Rio Rancho Estates. Many famous lines from the movie repeated often in sales circles.

Rio Rancho is now a city of about 90,000 with award winning schools and has been in Forbes Magazine top 10 family friendly cities.
