When it comes to schools, and education, there is a lot to be said for local control if parents are involved in the decisions made, and less admin and more teaching.
Most administrators think there is never enough money, while those paying the taxes know they face total ruin if public education ever gets complete control over financing.
Whenever I am asked to support a school levy, I respond thus: ‘I will vote for it if all funds raised go to improving facilities. I will not vote for it if it includes pay and benefit raises for personnel.’
Silence usually ensues.
