Please help me jog my memory and find a link (or several).
I seem to recall a Republican National Committee chairman several years ago saying that there is no place in the GOP for limited government people. I can't seem to find that, however, no matter how I do the search.
Can anyone help me with this?
I’m guessing it was Michael Steele.
Here’s a link to all of their names, if it’ll help:

I’m guessing it was one or more of these people.
54 Lee Atwater 19891991 South Carolina
55 Clayton Keith Yeutter 19911992 Nebraska
56 Richard Bond 19921993 Missouri

58 Jim Nicholson 19972001 Colorado
59 Jim Gilmore 20012002 Virginia
60 Marc Racicot 20022003 Montana
61 Ed Gillespie 20032005 Virginia
62 Ken Mehlman 20052007 Washington, D.C. Stepped down at end of 2006
63 Mel Martinez 2007 Florida Served with Mike Duncan as general chairman.
63 Mike Duncan 20072009 Kentucky Senator Mel Martinez served with Duncan as general chairman before stepping down in October 2007.
64 Michael Steele 20092011 Maryland Only African-American Chairman.
Jan Larimer served as co-chair.

More suspects here....

No, it was earlier than Steele.
It would be someone like Fahrenkopf, Gillespie, Mehlman, that era.
Inigo: Fezzik, jog his memory.
Fezzik: I’m sorry, Inigo. I didn’t mean to jog him so hard.
I think it’s Ed Gillespie...this may be of help....

I remember hearing that.
TBP, was that what you were referring to?
There’s no room in my life for the GOP-e.
That is helpful, but I don’t think it’s quite what I’m looking for. Thanks.
Gillespie runs in my mind, but I recall him saying so more directly.
So I tried the search another way and guess what happened!
This thread showed up as the tenth link on the subject — right on the first page.
