America has been moving back toward the closed system for some time now. The movement is incremental, its bureaucratic chains come wrapped in populist rhetoric, its power plays take the moral high ground for the oppressed, for progress and for efficient government, and its worst abuses are kept out of the headlines.

Each generation has less freedom than the last. Each generation lives under a more powerful system that is relentless in its determination to control and command. And each generation fails to make the connection between its incremental poverty, its incremental loss of freedom and its growing government.

Mr. Obama, tear down this wall.

The iron curtain has desended on our souls, our spirits are beaten down. No one knows what “freedom” even means anymore.

“People do not try to tear down a wall that they do not even know is there. It is only when they see the wall, when they feel its chill in their bones, when they sense its shadow over their lives, when they strive to climb over it and are shot down, when they chant against it and are beaten; will they be ready to tear it down.”

If we have not reached that point yet with the heavy weight of government pushing us down, suffocating and smothering us and our freedom in every way imaginable, then we have walked blindly into slavery and there will be no escape. Freedom has become an illusion we cling to and tell ourselves that one more election can turn it all around. It will not happen. The political elite have made an artform of reducing our power, stealing our souls, and enriching themselves bipartisanly and one more vote stregthens them, not us.

Every FReeper needs to run for office and tell the truth to a sleeping populace.

...you are being controlled for your own good, for the greater good, for the good of the state and the five-year-plan and the policy paper and the sub-paragraph of the regulation of page 50,261 as reinterpreted by a Federal judge in a court ruling that you never even heard of.

More everyday from Obama and his Orcs.

We must destroy Mordor or perish!

Depressing, but indisputable.

When I was young, Americans routinely said to one another, "Hey, it's a free country. It's up to you." or some variation thereof.

It's been a very long time since I've heard that.

Thanks for posting this.

FTA:”The iron curtain, like the Berlin Wall, is vulnerable.”

As an anectode, when I was in school I worked at a parts store as a go-fer. One of our regular customers converted the garage at his house into a repair shop and he was the local “go to guy” when it came to German caras. We nicknamed him “Sputnik” because years earlier he, his wife and then newborn son escaped from East Berlin just before they built the wall. Ask a commie symp why the damn wall was built in the first place if communism is so great? Chances are they’ll be more confused than a baby in a topless bar.

“Contemplate the mangled bodies of your countrymen, and then say 'what should be the reward of such sacrifices?' Bid us and our posterity bow the knee, supplicate the friendship and plough, and sow, and reap, to glut the avarice of the men who have let loose on us the dogs of war to riot in our blood and hunt us from the face of the earth? If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen!”
~~Samuel Adams

“A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear. The traitor is the plague.”
~~Marcus Tullius Cicero

“Everyone wants to live at the expense of the state. They forget that the state wants to live at the expense of everyone.”
~~Frederic Bastiat
