I remember it happening, but at the time…I was young and didn't understand all the stuff about the insiders and power brokers and such. But it was in the end a devastating decision. Richard Viguerie wrote something this week about that decision in fact. And of course, if Cruz were to get the nomination, the power brokers would certainly be pushing for some veep choice like Christie or Jeb or more likely, someone in that mold but in Congress somewhere….maybe even a turncoat Gov like Kasich.
You’ve got that right. The GOPe would want to be riding the brake, just in case a conservative won. As soon as Bush41 won as Reagan’s third term, he started signaling a detente with the left with talk of “a kinder and gentler” nation. The GOPe wants to go over the cliff only a little slower than the leftists do.
