The US has criticised Germany's economic policies, saying that its export-led growth model is hurting the eurozone and the wider global economy.
In its biannual report, the US Treasury said that domestic demand growth in Germany had been "anaemic".
It also reiterated its view that the Chinese yuan, continues to remain "significantly undervalued".
The report has criticised Chinese policy before, but criticism of German economic policy is rarer.
"Germany's anaemic pace of domestic demand growth and dependence on exports have hampered rebalancing at a time when many other euro area countries have been under severe pressure to curb demand and compress imports in order to promote adjustment," the Treasury said.
"The net result has been a deflationary bias for the euro area as well as for the world economy."

IHS Its importance to the 17-nation bloc has only increased since the development of the region's debt crisis, which has impacted other bigger economies such as Italy and Spain.
It has been one of Europe's stronger economic performers and its exports prowess is seen as one of its key strengths.

Another reason for the world to ignore what the US has to say.
I’m old enough to still remember when the US was relevant on the world stage...
Wow, how old are you? Wasn’t it a few decades ago when the US was a respected superpower on the global stage?
Let’s review the situation. Germany has the lowest unemployment rate of almost any European country, and certainly lower than the US (with it’s various gimmicks in place).
For 2014, Germany is expected to grow another 200,000 jobs. With 80 million in population, that’s not a bad number. How many jobs will the US market “really” grow in 2014? Do we even want to admit this in public?
The US advice here? Germany needs to spend more of it’s capital, to be lesser of a nation in economic terms. In other words....race to be bleak and weak.
Does anyone wonder why Germany isn’t taking this administration serious anymore? It’s like throwing a dozen hyper-active punk kids into a room with a pallet of Mountain Dew. All they do is talk of....is change, gimmicks for economies to fail, screwed up foreign policy, zero energy policy, blame-the-dog strategies, hocus-pocus environmental fixes and cosmetic lifestyle changes.
Yeah, the US was once the Richard Burton of the world stage, and today? It’s Pauly Shore generation. Speeches don’t work, theater drama in Congress doesn’t work, and Houdini-like magic with McCain and Reid doesn’t work. We’d be better off contracting the government out to Pepsi, and just avoid political turmoil.
I lived in Europe for about 6 months when Reagan was president. I can remember when the Euros were begging Reagan not to upset the Soviets. I was fun to listen to their whining!
I just finished reading a book about US foreign policy in the Middle East since 1776. When I read the chapters on Reagan it was hilarious. Reagan would help out the Europeans when dealing with a hostage crisis or to prevent terrorist atacks in Europe, and European governments returned the favor by banning US military from European airspace when Reagan launched military strikes on terrorist governments in the Middle East, such as Libya.
I lmao at that first sentence!
Maybe also because we are returning 300 tons of their gold over 7 years also known as the second Tuesday of next week.
