How to disable MRAP Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected Light Armored Vehicles

As of 2013, constitutional Americans have witnessed an increase in hostile posturing by the federal government. These hostile actions were clearly outlined by the CMF Website Administrator in the article ‘The American Government continues to target Preppers’. One of the most notable actions outlined in this article was the purchase of 2,700 MRAP Light Armored Vehicles by the Department of Homeland Security. A purchase warranted as unnecessary and irrational by seasoned military and police personnel. This single purchase of MRAPs is understandably unnerving for those in the survival community.

Its high-time Americans wake up and realize our nation is under a continual threat of tyranny. Now let’s step off the soapbox and get informed. When and if (when stressed more than if) the federal government uses light-armored vehicles against Americans, we will need to be fully informed prior to their use. You will need to know what an MRAP is, its capabilities, and its weaknesses. This guide will assist you and your survival group. MRAPs Light Armored Vehicles Synopsis

An MRAP is a mine-resistant ambush protected light armored vehicle, ergo the acronym MRAP. There are several classes of MRAPs; RG33, MRUV, JERRV, M-ATV, MRAP II Cougar, BMRV. There are at least 22,000 MRAPs currently being used by US Armed Forces, and over 2,700 MRAP Cougars in use by the Department of Homeland Security. With plenty more MRAPs in production. MRAPs being used by DHS have been retrofitted for domestic missions, which means nothing at all because the vehicles still maintain their battle-ready capabilities.

The best offense is a good defense. The MRAPs have led to countless successful missions in the Middle East. This is primarily due to the MRAPs hull, V shaped and protected by Frag Kit 6 armor. MRAPs can withstand explosive damage caused by improvised munitions and IEDs (improvised explosive devices). The MRAP protects a crew of up to eight and two vehicle operators that includes a gun-shield for.50 Caliber M2HB/7.62mm Caliber M240G operators.

The FK6 Armor provides effective blast mitigation while protecting from fragmentary damage. Basically, even after suffering significant damage, the MRAP can continue moving, an added benefit of the Hutchinson run-flat tires.

With further retrofitting by DHS of MRAPs, a target-acquisition sensor turret can be mounted to the vehicle equipped with .50 Caliber M2HB or a MK19 40mm Grenade Launcher. Ironically, this turret system is known as XM153 CROWS II (Common Remotely Operated Weapon Station). CROWS II Operators acquire targets with the use of day cameras, IR (infrared) cameras, and laser guided range finders…all within the safety of the RG33 MRAP.

MRAP Cougars are equipped with MaxxForce 10 engines with 375hp capable of reaching speeds of 65 mph with a range of approximately 420 miles. Its maximum payload is up to 6,000 lbs. for a combined weight of 38,000 lbs. MRAP Disabling Methodology

The MRAPs have significant weaknesses that can be exposed during combat. However, MRAPs will pose a considerable threat to your militia or survival group. Integrate MRAP disabling in FTX until you have battle-tested methodology established for disabling light armored vehicles. The primary disadvantage civilian based militia and survival groups are faced with is the unavailability of required military-grade ordnance.

First, the 2700 MRAPs are just the ones owned by DHS. That does not include the ones various local law enforcement depts are picking up.

Now, the main thing to know about MRAPs is they make lousy off-road vehicles. They tip very easily, and their weight can be made to work against them with little effort. As noted in the article, they weigh around 38,000lb. What it doesn’t say is that all that weight is carried quite high. MRAPs will start swaying dangerously on even mildly-uneven roads. They will tip completely over on a sidehill angle of 25 to 30 degrees, and they don’t have to be past that angle for very long to go over. Even a larger-than-average swaying motion on a rough road is enough. Also, their weight means it takes an equally large machine to recover one if it gets stuck. A narrow road and a tank trap will pretty much permanently put one out of commission. Lastly, these things are heavy, and are subject to high wear on drivetrain components due to having to push all that weight around. They were engineered with the understanding that there would be a nice, fat support tail to keep the things running, one that isn’t subject to small-town budgets. Most small LE departments aren’t going to be able to keep one maintained for long, and they’ll quickly fade to the back of the motor pool. Something expensive will break, or it’ll need new tires, or what have you, and that’ll be it.

Doing as well as I can, thanks. I’m pleased to see such enthusiasm and creative thinking on this subject.

Thermite, anyone?

Wikipedia isn't approved by FR, but it does have quite a listing of MRAP vulnerablities.

Another vulnerability is that someone has to drive it and someone has to give that order. Now is the time to find out who these people are, so when the time to give or follow the order they will have to take into consideration they are not anonymous. Someone knows who they are, where they live, and who is important to them. Let it be known that they are vulnerable if they are going to go all storm trooper on the populace.

Military Tactics and Rules of Engagement are Now Civilian Police Procedure

“The militarization of police agencies is reminiscent of the darkest times of Germany 1933-1945. They created the Brown Shirts (SA) and later the SS to do things most honorable military men would be ashamed to be involved with.

At a rapid pace our police have been ignoring our Bill of Rights and advancing on Americans with military tactics and rules of engagement. That is frightening for sure.

The response by Boston authorities to raid homes and remove families at gunpoint while they were looking for the marathon bombing suspects was incredibly un-American and wrong. That was absolute TYRANNY!

The above photograph speaks for itself; police should not be pointing military style rifles at our faces absent a real threat or probable cause.

I can’t help but believe that our own government has nasty plans for those of us that disagree with the administration’s Red politics.”

The real question is why the Feds should have ANY of them, not how many per county.

The design use of these vehicles is well outside the constitutional limits on the federal servants.

True, but operational considerations are also in play. This needs to be fought at the political level so that it doesn't have to be fought at the street level.

Hillsborough and Pinellas counties in Florida are not ashamed to show off their new toys. Both agencies have at least 1 MRAP apiece and several other armored vehicles for SWAT insertions and “training.”

As a 33 year old man who’s been a victim of violent crime, I am not afraid to fire back, but I am terrified that the men at whom I’m firing are a much larger force with many more weapons. I will go down firing if it comes to confiscations or round ups, but that doesn’t mean I’m not terrified that it might come to it. Fear is human. Controlling fear is what it means to be a soldier. I hope I don’t piss myself.

"If you see something that needs doing, do it."
-- Henry Bowman

My first thought exactly.

If the DHS or some other extra Constitutional agency deems the use of these vehicles appropriate against US citizens, then all bets are off and these vehicles will become targets of opportunity...for those so inclined to fight back.

Every can has it's opener. And they have to lager somewhere.

Families of operators do not sleep with them in the MRAP.

There's a whole lot of assumption on the part of way too many people that armed civil insurgencies play by Queensberry rules. It's a bad mistake.

"One proven tactic involves hanging Russian wounded and dead upside down in the windows of defended positions forcing the Russians to fire at their comrades in order to engage rebels." (Link)

I would expect to see such quality of conduct on both sides of any entrenched civil conflagration. The innate self-righteousness of collectivists is not going to suddenly go away, nor the desperation of the downtrodden fighting for survival.

Y’know....defending yourself and your loved ones from tyranny is great and needs to be done. However...a thought occurred to me:

If WE can read how to take out an MRAP....so can our ENEMIES. You know...Ahab the Arab and his friends and butt-buddies.

I’m thinking of the little reminder that used to be just below the comments box when posting on FR...”Loose lips sink ships”.

Personally....I’d want to distribute this privately, not over an open forum. Just my .02.

Everyone who goes to this site gets to the top of the NSA list for today. But since I’ve been on their lists going back to my public schools days, what the hay.
