Writing in National Journal, Beth Reinhard reports that the Republican Party is gearing up to exorcise itself of conservative and Tea Party elements it believes will lead the GOP to defeat in 2014.
"Hopefully we'll go into eight to 10 races and beat the snot out of them," said former Rep. Steve LaTourette of Ohio, whose new political group, Defending Main Street, aims to raise $8 million to fend off Tea Party challenges against more mainstream Republican incumbents. "We're going to be very aggressive and we're going to get in their faces."
Tactics being discussed among Republican consultants, donors, and party leaders include "running attack ads against Tea Party candidates; overthrowing Ron Paul's libertarians who have significant influence in the Iowa and Minnesota state parties; promoting open primaries over nominating conventions; and countering conservative organizations like Heritage Action, the Club for Growth, and FreedomWorks.
LaTourette's Defending Main Street group has identified several Republican politicians it may work to defend, including Rep. Mike Simpson of Idaho, Shelley Moore Capito who is running for the Senate in West Virginia, and Representatives Aaron Schock and Adam Kinzinger of Illinois, who have recently drawn criticism from conservative organizations such as Club for Growth.

I put in a lot of time working the phones for Kinzinger even though he is out of my district. Never again will I donate time or money to ANY Republican, local, state or fed.
DEFUND THE GOP!
UPDATED: Conservatives have had enough: #DefundTheGOP spreads across Twitter
Wednesday, Oct 2, 2013 at 1:51 PM CST
Not long after sharing the story of House Speaker John Boehner working behind-the-scenes with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to keep Congresss Obamacare exemptions, Glenn hit his breaking point on radio this morning. For a while, Glenn has said that he is done with the progressives in the GOP, but today he decided its time to get these guys out of the party. And he knows the only way to get them out is to cut off their funding.
Glenn created a hash tag to kick start his movement to rid conservatives of their horrible leadership: #DefundTheGOP.
I guarantee you, John Boehner would step down today, if the big donors would actually come to the plate today and say, Ive given my last dime to the Republican Party until John Boehner steps down not as speaker of the house but resigns. Until that happens, you dont get a dime from me. Not one dime from me, Glenn said. If everybody who has ever given any money would call their congressman and call GOP Headquarters and say, Dont you ever ask me for a dime. Dont you ever send me an email. Dont you do it. Theres step one: #DefundTheGOP.
Well, a lot of people listening to Glenn seemed to agree with him, and they took to Twitter to make their opinions known and to send a message to the leadership of the Republican Party

It is becoming very clear that the GOP will be figuratively and literally dead after the 2014 elections. So will the middle class, but that's the way the cookie crumbles.
Mr. niteowl77
And this is why we will never give a dime to the RNC when they call begging for campaign donations. We give to the conservative candidates, not the Democrat-Lite party.
There is a lot of talk about the tea party leaving the GOP before they beat us. I don’t believe in running.
If the Tea Party cannot take control of it’s own party, it has no chance in hell taking the nation.
With that said, I do believe the tea party SHOULD organize and BEGIN it’s efforts to form a viable political party... but refrain from splitting the ticket in general elections until gains the strength to win them.
Debt Since Election by Congressman
I hope to update this sometime soon; figures are as of 2012. Select any state in the upper right box and then hover over any district with your mouse.
This is yet another facet of ILL-ANNOY and The Combine. Retention of power, regardless of party, is the rule. Until the cottage industry of family politics is dismantled, ILL-ANNOY will continue on its death spiral. Keep in mind, the nation transplanted The Combine and its required corruption directly into the White Crib.
Wrong.
The republican party is a lost cause.
If they are no longer going to even pretend to be conservative, it's time for conservatives to move on.
That is an outstanding point. I think it also speaks to the fact people get so fired up about a third party Prez run that they forget what is involved with a viable party way beyond just an attracitve Prez ticket.
With that said, I do believe the tea party SHOULD organize and BEGIN its efforts to form a viable political party... but refrain from splitting the ticket in general elections until gains the strength to win them.
Something like this is done in spots. From what I hear, the NY Conservative Party is a third party - and they support the GOP nominee when he/she is decent, but challenge the GOPers in certain races with bad candidates. This is a sensible hybrid that has a chance of working and winning.
2ndDivisionVet @10 - Great picture of Mooshelle and McCain out for a stroll... or is it Boehner?
Republican faction pushing amnesty
“Several Republican executives and donors who are part of a lobbying blitz coming to Capitol Hill next week said they were considering withholding, or had already decided to withhold, future financial support to Republican lawmakers they believe are obstructing progress on immigration. “
FUGOP.
Perhaps now an inordinate fear of standing with conservative principles has a name - LaTourette’s syndrome.
>>> they support the GOP nominee when he/she is decent, but challenge the GOPers in certain races with bad candidates. This is a sensible hybrid that has a chance of working and winning.
The key I think is focusing efforts on the primaries.
Most voters don’t even bother with primaries because they simply trust the establishment (and other repubs) to find the best candidate for the general election.
Voter turnout in most primaries should be a national disgrace... it’s what gives activist groups like gays and environmentalists the power that they have... while republicans just assume that the GOP has it’s back.
When we get out of the general election mentality, and focus on the front end of the election cycle, we might find out how much REAL power we actually have.
Time to consolidate the Tea Party groups, to be more focused and effective.
I get e-mail & snail-mail from about 20 different Tea Party Groups.
We need to join forces, trim overhead and target some Rino’s.
I can’t/won’t give 20 groups $100 each.
But, I could/would give a more focused Tea Party $500.
Meanwhile, I deal direct with the true Conservatives.
I ceased belonging to the Republicrat Party decades ago. I do vote for Republican candidates and NEVER vote for DemoncRATs.
I unabashedly am a Tea Partian.
Nice! Says it all!
Mark Levin yesterday talked about an article on Fox News. That no matter how many Republicans are elected to the Senate, it won't make a difference because there's a faction that will always work with the Dems.
RINO wins primary, well not lifting a finger to help and maybe support opposition. Just some payback for those election cycles RINOs stabbed conservatives in the back after losing in the primary (Lugar is exhibit 1) Payback is definitely a Hillary
