I believe it would be safe to say, we are living in a changed America. To say it has always been harmonious in America would register at the top of the naivety scale, but never have we seen such an effort to silence political dissent in this country. Simply put, it did not used to be this way. How is it that people like Jane Fonda can actively work against our government, receiving a lifetime achievement award for her efforts, yet the Tea Party is reviled in liberal circles for voicing their political dissent? In my view, there is something so wrong with that, it defies comprehension.
In a recent post, I mentioned Hillary Clinton and how she so strongly rejected the idea that political dissent was unpatriotic. I happen to agree with her, in that it is the right of all Americans to disagree with their government on any given issue. It is also well within those rights for any American to be vocal in that political dissent. It is part of who we are, as a country. To deny that fact is to deny part of our heritage. That's how I see it, as a conservative. I may disagree vehemently with what you say, but I still believe you have the right to say it.
The liberals aren't so free with their willingness to allow political dissent. It's okay if their side of the political equation voices their opposition to conservative ideals, but not so much for conservatives to do the same. Case in point would be the rise of the Tea Party. This took place during the fight to pass Obamacare. I lost count of the times the Tea Party was vilified by the liberal media. It seemed that the most common misconception, ie. lie, was how violent the Tea Party was. Couple that with charges of racism and there you have it. A perfectly good reason to require the Tea Party to shut up and sit down.
Funny thing is, nary a word was said when the Occupy Wall Street movement became violent and unlawful. I could give you more than a few examples of how Occupy destroyed property, both public and private. Some of their "camps" were ripe with violence, rape, robbery, etc., resulting mostly in silence from the liberal media. If it were not for the new media, blogs such as Conservative Hideout, much of the violence stemming from the Occupy Wall Street movement would have gone unreported.
The Tea Party is not the only group liberals would like to silence. Have you heard of the American Family Association? They have worked to promote traditional family values in America. Yes, that does mean they believe marriage should be between one man and one woman. For their work in this arena, they have been classified as a hate group, alongside groups such as the KKK. See America's Watchtower for the story.
The story doesn't end there. I have always believed the American military was nonpolitical in nature. It is supposed exist to defend our country against all enemies from without. The men and women who serve in the military do so without fear of reprisal for their political views. Their main concern and focus is on the defense of America, not who is in charge in Washington. They have the freedom to vote their own political conscience and to voice that conscience, as long as they are respectful to their uniform and their duties. At least, they used to. Poor Richard's News has a story that makes me wonder if that is coming to an end.
The Washington Times - Dont donate to the tea party or to evangelical Christian groups that was the message soldiers at a pre-deployment briefing at Fort Hood said they received from a counter-intelligence agent who headed up the meeting. If you do, you could face punishment that was the other half of the message, as reported by Fox News.
The briefing was Oct. 17, and about a half-hour of it was devoted to discussion about how perceived radical groups like tea party organizations and the Christian-based American Family Association were tearing the country apart, one unnamed soldier said, to Fox News.Take special notice of the emphasis I have placed on the third paragraph of the quote. Liberals really believe the political dissent coming from groups such as the Tea Party is tearing America apart. This comes from a political party whose leader is a President who has divided America, much more so than before he entered the White House. Again, not a word about Occupy Wall Street or the liberal protests that have turned violent.Among the remarks the agent allegedly made: Military members who donate to these groups would be subject to discipline under the Uniform Code of Military Justice, the soldier reported.
Liberty Institute has stepped in to investigate. Michael Berry, one of the nonprofits attorneys, said he has been advising the soldier about his options but that in the meanwhile, he said the American public should be on guard.
The American public should be outraged that the U.S. Army is teaching our troops that evangelical Christians and tea party members are enemies of America and that they can be punished for supporting or participating in those groups, Mr. Berry said, in Fox News. These statements about evangelicals being domestic enemies are a serious charge.
Liberals also believe Christians are guilty of political dissent because we voice our opposition to the homosexual agenda. The American Family Association has been at the forefront of that fight. Because of their vocal opposition, they have been classified as a hate group. They now have a target on their backs, placed their by liberals who desire to shut them down, no matter what it takes.
Liberals are not satisfied with stating their viewpoints, allowing the political opposition to do the same, and letting the American voters choose their own path. Instead, they choose to silence any and all political dissent, regardless of the ways and means by which they do so. They don't want us to think for ourselves. They would rather keep our brains inactive and our voices silent. I'm not so fond of doing either, so let the political dissent begin.
“I am sick and tired... ACK ACK ACK ACK!”
The favorite villain in the 1970s television was the crazy Viet Nam vet going on rampages. Hawaii 50 was perhaps the worse.
Of course reality and fiction seldom meet, but Hollywood took it to extreme.
Those whose oath included the terms “both foreign and domestic” are PRECISELY the ones that the administration should fear.
No joke.
Absolutely, I was watching a documentary on Dirty Harry, I was deep into the Zodiac case. The actor they interviewed was andy robinson, the son of Edward G.
HE brought up that the crazed killer scorpio was a vietnam vet, yet there is nothing in the movie or script that ever mentions that. And the character he plays wears a peace symbol belt buckle. I never watched H50. Now I am glad I didn’t.
