A Palestinian girl has won the top prize at an essay contest held by Korea University.
In an essay describing her reflections on how she became a fan of Korean pop music and dramas, Samir Maisa (19), a student at Al Quds University in Palestine, wrote, "I heard a saying that there are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle. I decided to choose the latter."
She said that Korean dramas appeared in her life one day like a "miracle" to give her hope of a better tomorrow.
The contest is part of an event held on the sidelines of a two-day seminar taking place in Seoul until Saturday. Global academics have gathered to discuss the Korean Wave phenomenon and present their latest research.
In her essay, Maisa, who grew up watching gun battles on the streets of Palestine, describes how she came into contact with K-pop and TV dramas, which helped her escape the misery and dream of a better and happier future.

I recommend it!
The remind me of the Power Puff girls.
lolz
I think their original theme was to all wear different colors as in a Crayon Box...hence the band name Crayon Pop
I still do not get the helmets and I watched the longer video
(I like songs in multiple languages; it's one of the little/great things about the Tenchi DVDs: changing the language changes the song's language for the open/end-music.)
I think it’s sort of like Devo.
No doubt this gal is much better off watching Korean entertainment than whatever anti-Jew propaganda is available to her locally.
I did used to love the spoof Korean soap operas that they had on Mad TV. The fellow who played the ‘prince’ or whatever he was was very cute.
My favorite K-Pop group is “Windy City.” They are a Korean reggae band, they also incorporate traditional Korean instruments into their music. Really good stuff.
Though we don't listen to much Crayon-Pop, I am more of a 2ne1, SNSD or After School guy.
I only listen to 2NE1 and After School - oh - you might want to look up a Chinese pop singer - G.E.M
After School is catchy; I'll have to look at the other two.
I recently found this Chinese song and really liked the vocals (sorry, but this audio isn't the best), and there's this song too.
Thanks for the tip on Chinese music. Here in Beijing, they don’t promote Chinese Pop music on TV as much as South Korea promoted KPop. However, Hong Kong does a better job of promoting Asian Pop music.
