Later on in the article, she makes a reference to 'shelter in place'. I agree with her that our culture has become too cautious, eenb to the point of being afraid of een depictions of 'dangerous' activities, such as running and jumping

I haven’t read the article yet and I have no idea what een or eenb means, but I agree and have said so many times before here in FreeRepublic ... America is a terrorized nation and unfortunately it’s our government that fomented this condition and continues to feed the fear.

Like her or dislike her. Love her or hate her, Peggy Noonan is a wonderful writer. Especially on subject such as this. This one short column really does speak volumes. Just read between the lines.

Alan Shepard’s gone. Deke Slayton’s gone. Wally Schirra’s gone. Gus Grissom’s gone. Gordon Cooper’s gone. Now Scott Carpenter’s gone. The only one left of the Original Seven is John Glenn.

She really is. I hated it when she went off the reservation on Obama, because when she just writes and leaves the politics out of it, few can touch her. Republicans and Democrats alike can share in the loss of true American Hero like Scott Carpenter.
I’m the same age as Noonan, and remember feeling exactly the same way when it was reported that Carpenter came in off target. We would get him safely back home, because that’s what we did. Nothing but pride in our military and in our government endeavors such as NASA. The 60s represented the apex of American Exceptionalism.

I dont know who the next American president is, but I know who the next great American president issomeone who remembers and can marshal and bring forth the mood of the old America: Liftoff, we have liftoff. We will do it. Endless horizons. Home of the brave. Great nations run on spirit. The next great one will know that. Funny that. I know one or two persons who in all likelihood would make excellent presidents just because they would be able to marshal the mood of old America. But I'm sure Ms Noonan wouldn't lend her support to get anyone of them elected.

Yeah, I remember him gumming up the investigation into the Communist Chinese government funding the Democrat party in the 90's.

Yes, a true turning point in this country for the beginnings of societal leftist rot were on the horizon.

I would start downward on the chart with Johnson, another big downward leap the Iran hostage crisis and Carter sequestering himself in the WH. Bug bump up with Reagan and the slow decline through Clinton and now steepest decline the Hero of Benghazi.

I had just moved to Houston in 1962 and lived in an apt. complex where a lot of NASA people lived. Astronauts came and went a lot...there were only seven until the Gemini were introduced.
One day my neighbor ran up the stairs and said, "Oh my gosh! I almost ran over Scott Carpenter in the parking lot."

Because God knows He is going to win anyway so why not get the Good the hell out of here and let the evil ones have all the time anyone should need to repent.
